You might have noticed that I’ve been getting back into running. Slowly but surely.
Minnesota thawed out a few short weeks ago so I’ve been heading outdoors for some fresh, Spring running.
Run-walking some might call it (running with walking breaks). That’s what I’ve always done anyhow since it’s better for injury prevention, but the ratio leans stronger towards the walking part for now.
Ever since my Run or Dye 5K last Saturday, I’ve gotten the itch to run even more. You know, that post-race bliss where you want to sign up for ALLTHERACES you can possibly find. I mean this past week I went outside three times for 3-5 mile runs!
Well, I’ve been very fortunate in the fact that someone representing the Shape Diva Dash contacted me and asked if I wanted to be a race ambassador.
Um, heck yes I do!
I’ve subscribed to Shape Magazine since high school (we won’t go into how long ago that was..) and I’ve seen the Shape Diva Dash advertised for a few years and always wanted to go but there was never one close to Omaha, Nebraska. One of the cool things about living in the twin city area is that so many events happen close by!
Something else that I noticed about the Shape Diva Dash (of course after agreeing to it) was that it is an adventure race. Meaning there are obstacles. Eek! I’ve never done anything like that before. All of my races have been strictly running. Running through color is as close as I’ve gotten to an adventure race. I’m getting nervous just typing about it!
But it’s good to get out of your comfort zone every now and again, right?
It’s good to challenge yourself and try new things, right?
Right.
I’m going to keep telling myself that until I cross the finish line May 31st.
Okay, let’s get to the main points of this post.
1. Tell You About the Event.
If you haven’t gotten the idea yet or don’t feel like clicking over to divadash.com (which you should to see the video playing on the homepage), check out the blurb here:
The SHAPE Diva Dash, a women-only obstacle run comes to the Washington County Fairgrounds in Stillwater, MN on Saturday on May 31, 2014. This is the only mud free national 5K women’s obstacle series. This is the first time this event has been held in Minnesota.
Since its 2011 debut, more than 50,000 women have participated in the SHAPE Diva Dash, a 5K obstacle run that promotes an active and healthy lifestyle. The Dash empowers women by creating a safe and supportive environment where they can step outside their comfort zone and try something new. That could be sliding down the ‘Fireman’s Pole’, inching over the “Alpiner” climbing wall, or testing coordination on ‘Swinging Steps’.
Runners wear costumes, get silly, laugh a lot, and challenge themselves on a course that’s loaded with obstacles that test speed, strength, balance and agility. Sometimes they even scare themselves on an obstacle that’s unlike anything they’ve ever tried.
For the 1000’s of ladies that cross the finish line, it’s proof positive that determination, discipline and dedication are all that’s needed to accomplish your goals.
Anyone 8 or older can participate in the SHAPE Diva Dash. The entry fee is $55 – $85 and participants can register at www.divadash.com
Here are all of the other cities in the line-up!
2. Enlist friends in the twin cities area to run with me!
This definitely looks like one of those races where you get together with a group and design ridiculous matching outfits to prance around in. The prancing around doesn’t usually happen when one runs alone. I personally insist the outfit have sparkles of some sort. Even if you’re not from the area, we can always make a girls weekend out of it and hit the Mall of America on Sunday. Hopefully we won’t be too beat up then…
3. Giveaway + Discount Code!
As an ambassador, I am able to give away one free entry to any of the upcoming races AND provide you with a coupon code for $10 off!
