9 Fun Ways to Keep Moving This Summer

July 9, 2013 by Amanda R DeWitt

Hello Friends!

I found this post that I did for Kelly over at Nosh and Nourish (formerly No Sugar Sweet Life) and I thought it fit in perfectly with yesterday’s post on NEAT fitness!

PS have you noticed any changes around the blog??  I want to thank you all for weighing in on my font change on my header!  That one little thing (and the fact that it’s my blogiversary month…the first giveaway is ending soon!), prompted me to change a couple other things!

Okay back to the post!  I hope this can help motivate you (and me!) to get out there and move this summer!

——————–
My name is Amanda and I blog over at Diary of a Semi-Health Nut.

I share my newfound love of running, my obsession with baking cookies, and my two cents on living a well-rounded, semi-healthy life.

Kelly and I attended Blend Retreat (aka a life-changingly awesome blogging retreat) together this past May.  I’m super excited to be able to take over her blog for a day!

Today’s topic:
Fun Ways to Keep Moving This Summer

Okay, I realize that summer is half-way over already, but you may or may not have gotten into a fitness rut after numerous vacations and/or over-indulgent summer get-togethers.  (it’s not half over now, but it was when I wrote this post!)
It’s never too late to get moving!
1.  Sign up for a fun-run or charity run.
This could give you some incentive to get training for the big day, even if it is only a 5K.  Not to mention, there are some really great causes out there!

(Note from me today: I just signed up for the Color Run in Des Moines and I get to run with my friends Calee and Alex Saturday!  So excited!!)

2.  Take a hike!
No, I’m not being rude. 😉  Hiking is a fun and distracting way to get a workout in..especially if you are with friends!
3.  Join a fitness class or boot camp!
Gyms often have summer boot camps you can sign up for or a variety of group fitness classes to partake in.  Trust me, I was wary of joining one as well and being the “newbie” in class, but most classes have such a variety of fitness levels that you will be both challenged and feel good about yourself.
4.  Have little ones?  Pushing your babes in a stroller can be a full body workout!
Babysitting is a workout!
5.  Take a trip to the zoo!  And pull some kiddos around in a wagon while you’re at it.
6.  Take a swim.
I know it seems like an obvious thing to do in the summer, but many of us ladies simply sit around the pool soaking up the sun.  Get in the water and at least dog paddle a bit!
7.  Do some gardening!
I know it’s not fun to weed the garden…but do it!  It will benefit you to get out and move around plus…your garden will look better!
8.  Be that person that takes the paddle-boat around the lake!
You will burn calories and get a nice look at all of the (usually) amazing lake houses!

9.  Play like a kid!!
Get up and have a blow-up bat fight with your little sister! 😉
***Tips:
Make sure that when you are out and about movin’ and groovin’ you are keeping hydrated and cool.
  • Listen to your body.  If you feel too hot, move inside or to the shade.
  • Make sure to carry water and/or gatorade when you are walking or running outside.
  • Drink gatorade if you’ve been working out for over an hour.
  • If you plan on going for a run, weigh yourself before and after.  For each pound you’ve lost (it’s water weight folks, sorry to say), drink 2 cups of water and/or a sports drink (if you’ve been out longer than an hour).
It will take less time than you think to get back on track so get moving and have fun! 🙂

How do you stay active in the summer?
Do you ever look back at old posts (and graphics!) and think about how much you’ve changed since then?

Another question for the blog readers: how quickly does my page load for you?  I can’t tell sometimes if my internet is going slow or if my blog is!

I love making new friends!  Feel free to comment below, or connect with me via Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram or e-mail: semihealthnut AT yahoo DOT com.  You can also follow posts via e-mail , Bloglovin, Networked Blogs, or my blog feed. Thank you so much for reading and God bless! 🙂

    So much to say!

First of all, I want to go paddleboating so badly. Boyfriend and I have tried to go a couple times, but things just haven’t worked out. I’ve got it on my list to do it this year, so hopefully we will, soon!

How do you stay active in the summer?
Running, obviously, and I love to walk where ever I need to go. Luckily my current apartment is super central and I can!

Do you ever look back at old posts (and graphics!) and think about how much you’ve changed since then?
Oh my gosh yes. Sheesh. Part of this stems from being a designer … I’m my own worse critic! Loving the green BG btw.

Another question for the blog readers: how quickly does my page load for you? I can’t tell sometimes if my internet is going slow or if my blog is!

I’m not noticing anything slow, and our internet at work isn’t the best. So I think you’re probably fine!

That’s great you can walk everywhere! I really need to start walking…Target is practically across the street but I’m pretty sure I can never go in and just get a couple bags worth of items!

I really want to go paddleboating again too! I went last year a couple of times at friends places, but I’m not in O town anymore dangit.

Yay for the green! Green means healthy right? 🙂

Going to the zoo can be a serious workout. The last time that I went I was actually a bit sore afterwards from walking up all of the stairs and up and down hills.
