I will never stop baking.
Nor will I ever stop loving chocolate. Or cookies.
But I will try to make my sweets a little healthier, without sacrificing true deliciousness.
I had a slight scare last night. I don’t step on the scale but a couple of times a month. Okay maybe once a week, but I am not an every-morning-stepper.
I promise you I’m not obsessed with my weight. I am fairly comfortable with my body, as long as I can fit into my jeans. If not, I wear sweatpants. 😉
I noticed last week I was up a few pounds. This wasn’t surprising since I’ve been sick a couple of weeks and am working back into my fitness routine.
(Speaking of which…head over to Crazy Cooking Couple’s blog to check out my guest post on getting back into running!)
I typically see results with this sort of thing a week or so later. Again, this didn’t surprise me, nor did it really phase me.
Last night, my work pants felt a little tight. I’m up a few pounds, so this makes sense. It will get better I told myself.
Later in the night, my pants clasp broke. Not completely, however it will no longer stay latched since some of the stitching came out on one side. Okay, not feeling so great about that.
I got to the BF’s house late last night (I HAD to hang out with him since he’s NEVER in town!) and when I was in the bathroom, I snuck out his fancy shmancy scale.
It not only shows weight, it shows body fat and water percentage (whatever that means?). This scale told me that I was actually about 10-12 pounds off of my usual weight. Yikes! I have never weighed that number in my entire life!
It was weird because I really didn’t feel like I’d gained that much. It couldn’t be from muscle…I haven’t been working out very much. I could still fit into my jeans…the work pants thing was just a little disturbing with this new number.
I tried to keep this new-found information to myself, but I had to talk to the BF about it today. He is awesome and told me he didn’t notice a thing. Would he be honest if he did? Who knows. He made me feel a little better.

Still not completely satisfied, and becoming a little obsessed/worried about this number, I got on my dad’s digital scale.
Whoa. Seven pounds different than the BF’s scale. I pulled all the stuff off of my old-school scale in my bathroom and it showed the same number as my dad’s. Only up 3-5 pounds according to these two scales. Really? That fancy shmancy scale of the BF’s was wrong!
This got me thinking about the way I reacted to this “scare”.
- Would it be terrible if I gained 10-12 pounds? Not necessarily, however I am 5’2″ and that is quite a bit for a short gal to gain.
- Would I be okay with myself if I wasn’t as trim as I have been most of my life? I really, really hope so!
It also got me thinking about what I would change if I needed to lose 10 pounds.
Cut out sugar? Chocolate? Workout more consistently?
I had to be honest.
I don’t think I could give up chocolate, or cookies, or baking experiments. I could limit these items, or make them healthier, sure, but never, ever give them up.
Double Chocolate Whole Wheat Cookie Goodness
How do they taste?
Chocolatey and soft. Microwave 10 seconds to get the chocolate melty. Even add peanutbutter to the top and melt right on. Yum.
I’ve been munching on these chocolate delights as a reward for cleaning my bathroom. The tub got pretty gnarly after a few uses of a new shaving cream…this stuff doesn’t wash down the drain, it simply sits there. And then turns a weird orange color after you ignore it in hopes that it will go away. Got my arm workout in today!!
Sadly there is more cleaning to do, so I am off to continue the workout!!
Have a lovely evening friends!
