Is anyone else baffled that it is Friday? Seriously the last 48 hours raced by like the hare raced by the poor tortoise. Dang smug rabbit.
Wednesday I packed up anything and everything I could possibly need to take with me to KC including homework, workout clothes galore, snacks for the hotel room, a cooler with foods that might go bad in the 5 days I’d be gone, 6 pairs of shoes and a dozen mix and match outfits because I could NOT figure out what to wear to the MINK Conference. I basically brought my whole apartment…except for socks. And the connecter thing that lets me load pictures from my camera onto my laptop. I really need to just make a list of basics to bring on trips….

Yeah that was pretty much how my Civic looked.
I didn’t end up leaving town until about 6pm…only 3 hours later than planned. That’s what happens though when your apartment is a disaster and you feel the need to clean up so that when you get back home Sunday night you don’t pull your hair out. And when you are super car savvy and recognize that the light on the dashboard means you need to put air in your tires AND you know how to fill them up! (Can you tell I’m proud of that??)
So I got to Dave’s hotel around 9pm, drinking my diet dew the whole drive. Poor Dave passed out around 10pm and I was WIDE AWAKE for another few of hours.
Thursday came around and I could not motivate myself to get to the gym like I had planned. One of those days where I had to convince myself to take a dang shower and then spend about an hour figuring out what to wear. With my super awesome planning skills I did manage to print out the MINK Conference itinerary, however I did not realize that it was 35 minutes from the hotel Dave and I are staying at.
I missed the first session I wanted to attend, but made it to the last session around 3:45pm to hear a talk about dietitians and athletics. Did you know that a professional football player’s average lifespan is only 55 years old?? From the context I believe this is due to all of the stress and crazy (unhealthy) measures players go through to stay alive and able to play during season and the equally unhealthy decisions made during off season.
I honestly feel like I’m in the same boat today…not feeling super motivated to get out of my comfort zone and spend 12 hours at a conference. So I thought I’d whip up this post, eat my breakfast and see if I can convince myself that it will in fact be okay to meet some new people AND it will be awesome to learn more about my future career.
It seems like the blogging world was full of thoughtful posts the past couple of weeks, or those were the ones I picked out anyhow.
If your post was featured, please grab a button! I am super proud that I figured out (again) how to make blog buttons so let’s put this to use!
If you’re looking for something funny, Dave sends me cute pictures off of Facebook pages all the time and I thought I’d share one with you guys.
(Name the movie on top and the cat on the bottom..go!)
Oh and a video he sent me…if you’ve ever seen Duck Dynasty, watch this parody: http://vimeo.com/63085013.
Well, I still feel super unmotivated to leave the comfort of this hotel room. I guess I thought this conference would be a little different and that I would have someone to go to the with since the dietitian that invited me said I could hang out with the other students she was bringing up.
It turned into Amanda battling the streets of KC alone (holy crap it took almost an hour to get back to the hotel and I am NOT used to the aggressive driving in a bigger city) and sitting amongst hundreds of RDs who seemed to know each other. That was my perception anyhow.
Long distance relationships are also tough. Even though I’m here with Dave, he works so stinkin’ much! We did get to enjoy dinner together last night at Noodles & Company and he will have the weekend off….so I’m trying to think positively but sometimes it’s tough, ya know?
I suppose I paid to attend the conference and I do want to learn, so I better peel my woe-is-me self out of this desk chair and get moving, right?? We will see!
Have a lovely weekend all and wish me luck!!
Does anyone else get nervous meeting new people?
Any positive words on long distance relationships?

I read Lindsay’s great post, but there are a few other on that list I’m DEFINITELY going to have to check out. Even though I’m working on getting over calorie counting and some other ‘healthy things that turned unhealthy’ with my eating, I haven’t really gotten into the actual IE ‘system’ or ‘plan,’ so I’m curious about that post in particular…
