So creative! Rolled up dish towels to make a centerpiece! |
The parties were for Dave (the BF)’s cousin’s wife-to-be. Basically I hung out with his family all weekend without him again.

It’s hard enough to eat well when you’re traveling, let alone when you have celebrations to attend to!
Here are a few things that I did to keep it semi-healthy:
1. Load up on vegetables and fruit as well as protein (to keep you full and to help with the inevitable sugar intake).
Usually at showers there is a selection of these healthy items, so take advantage of it. Yes, you can have a cupcake, but start with the good stuff.
2. Cut the punch. No, you don’t have to cut it out (although it might be best to choose between a sweet drink and a sweet treat to eat). I drank half iced tea and half punch.
3. Ask to split a dessert. Chances are, there will be more than one person at the party who is watching their sweet intake.

4. Don’t drink on an empty stomach. Just don’t do it. After awhile you won’t be able to monitor the amount of drinks you are taking in and then you might not make the best choices when it comes to food later on.
5. Have an idea of how many calories are in a drink…the amaretto and diets I was drinking were about 120 calories each I found out today (that’s just the alcohol! this is why I get diet!). Awesome. Good thing I only drank half of my Budlight Lime-A-Rita (which was decent but gave us all a headache!).
6. Drink lots of water before bed and you will feel better in the morning. 😉
7. When you get home, load up on the fresh food. You don’t have to go extreme and do a cleanse diet or anything.

Just get right back into the swing of things and don’t feel too guilty about all of the indulgences you gave into. Remember, the key is to be semi-healthy and to have fun!
