Thank You Shape Magazine

July 6, 2012 by Amanda R DeWitt

Hello Friends!

I hardly ever take time to sit down and read a magazine.  This was evident in my mad cleaning fit that took over me on Monday.

I found about 15 magazine issues (that I paid for!) that I still haven’t read…and I only subscribe to two monthly magazines and one magazine that comes out…every so often?  I’m just a tad bit behind on my reading…

Most of these magazines are now stacked next to the back deck where I plan on soaking up some rays and drinking in all of the new fitness moves to be had (as well as finding out how to retire rich).

I have added “read all of my magazines” to my summer to-do list.  I know, my life is rough.

When I grabbed my first magazine from the list on Tuesday, I was delighted to see Malin Akerman on the cover of Shape Magazine.  I love her work in 27 Dresses where she plays a high-strung bridezilla and in The Proposal where she plays a very sweet ex-girlfriend who lives in small-town Alaska.

I flipped to the page with her interview and was further delighted to see the interviewer asking her how she got in shape (no pun intended) for this particular shoot.

Think about it ladies.  This famous actress who always looks gorgeous and flawless on screen, isn’t always “bikini ready.”  This actress who’s job is to look fabulous and fit on screen actually lets herself fall back into a more normal body shape.

The ladies on the covers of magazines aren’t real.  We know that, but do we really know it?

It’s simple to work really hard for a month to get the “dream body,” but what does it matter if you can’t keep it?  Unless you’re a model who only does shoots once every six months…it really is not worth it.

And if you’re striving to look like the ladies on the covers of magazines, please don’t!  Everyone’s body is different.  Please realize this.  Everyone has their best body shape and it probably doesn’t look like Malin Akerman’s.  Why?  Because there is only one Malin Akerman.

Thank you Shape Magazine for asking real questions, for not pretending like actresses are always “bikini ready.”

Can I point out one more detail?  Look at the way the models/actresses pose when they are in your bikini.  Do you ever walk around with your arms above your head?  Or even standing with your back arched constantly?  I think not. 😉  These are poses that elongate the torso and give the illusion of zero body fat.

Exercising and eating healthy is great and all, but Akerman says it herself in this interview, “You’ve got to allow yourself the things you enjoy or you’ll just be miserable.”

You are beautiful, friend.

God doesn’t make mistakes.  Psalm 139:14

Exercise and eat your fruits and veggies to feel better inside and your natural body shape will come through on its own.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend and feel amazing in those swimsuits.

Love and blessings,

*~Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut~*
