I went for a long run for the first time since…May 16th according to DailyMile. It felt good!
Well, the run didn’t feel good the whole time, but I feel good today having run 4 miles at the Purple Stride Walk. It was also for a very good cause, pancreatic cancer. The survival rate is extremely low…think below double digits. The BF’s family has lost a few family members to this disease.
Although it was a great event, I am guessing the run was a bit of an afterthought.
In fact, when we were warming up, they told us we were warming up for the “walk.” After all of the announcements and excitement about how many donations were made, they told us to have a “good walk.”
BF’s sister and I were wondering if there was a run at all with all of the walk-talk.
At the last minute, they told the “runners” to line up at the front. That was us!

The run started out downhill, so we joked about how that meant we would be running uphill at some point.
Since the run started at 9:30am, it was pretty toasty already at that point. (Another reason I think this was their first run.) Think 75-80 degrees and sunny over the course of the run. I really should have brought water or Gatorade of my own.
It was a very beautiful, scenic run around a lake…although it hardly felt like an organized run. There were two water stops (thank goodness!) but not a whole lot of support/encouragement from volunteers. I’m so glad I had someone to run with!
I decided to sprint the last half mile and was feeling pretty darn good about myself but was shocked when I got to the “finish line” and no one even glanced at me. This made me really grateful for the volunteers and run-coordinators at my 5K Midnight Run and 10K Race for Grace who cheered me on and congratulated me for finishing.
I finished with a 11:13 pace…and that was with a bathroom stop at mile 2. (My bladder is awesome like that.)
I just had to pat my own back and hunt for water. At that point it was a bit of a panicked search for water since I was feeling dehydrated!
I also had a mini-panic attack when I saw the BF’s cousin and she said that BF’s sister’s ride had left. Yes, I sprinted the last half mile and ashamedly left her behind. Since I had no idea how fast she was going, I decided to go back on the trail to search for her.
Turns out her ride did not leave. *sigh* At least I got a nice cool down walk in!
I had a nanner as a recovery “meal” and a lunch of champions after I got all showered and fresh.
That’s the best feeling isn’t it? Showering after a hot run? 🙂
Leftover pizza from the awesome people I babysit for.
They were going out of town this weekend and would have thrown it out anyways. Who could turn down free pizza?
Plus some leftover Mexican rice. Yum.
Well I am off to get ready! The BF is coming home tonight! Haven’t seen him for a week so I’m super excited. We are hanging out at his parents’ house and watching Food Network Stars episodes all night.
Have a great night friends!
How was your weekend? Any races?
