Hello friends,
I hope you had an amazing weekend! I had a pretty lazy one…stayed in my Pj’s for most of the day Saturday. (I needed that.)
Since all of my Halloween treats had vanished quickly, I have been craving homemade sweets. I decided to try a new recipe…rather I decided to create a new masterpiece of a cookie.
{We know that I heart cookies.}
There has been a trend recently for desserts made with salt or pepper, a combination of flavors to delight the tastebuds. I decided to try to replicate the salty/sweet aspect and it turned out perfectly (if I do say so myself).
I tweeted that I had probably eaten 10 of these guys on Saturday. That is how awesome they turned out. (Or that is how big my sweet tooth is?)
Sugar and Spice and Everything Awesome Cookies
- 1 cup butter-flavored crisco
- 2 eggs
- 2-3 TBS Cinnamon Vanilla Creamer (or milk)
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cup flour
- 1 cup oats
- 1tsp salt
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp pumpkin spice seasoning
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup salted roasted sunflower seeds (depending on your want of salty-flavoring)
- 1/2 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips
To Do:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
- Cream together sugars and crisco. You can nuke the crisco 20-30 seconds for easier mixing if you’d like.
- Add eggs to the mixture.
- Add the creamer or milk.
- Add oats.
- In a separate bowl combine the remaining dry ingredients (not the chips or sunflower seeds) and sift/mix together.
- Slowly stir in the combined dry ingredients to the mixture.
- Add your sunflower nuts and chocolate chips.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. Let sit on the cookie sheet outside of the oven an additional five minutes before removing to cool.
- ENJOY the Sweet Spiced Salty GOODNESS!
I just finished the last of these beauties. And patted myself on the back. And considered whipping up another batch. Pronto.
Oh! I almost forgot! I saw the Trans Siberian Orchestra over the weekend.
I. Love. Christmas Music.
Have you ever seen the Trans Siberian Orchestra? It was kind of a crazy show…we kept joking that we didn’t know we were signed up to see an 80’s hairband…

Phenomenal music. Absolutely breathtaking.
But I couldn’t help but notice EVERYONE had long hair. 😉
I got into the Christmas spirit and bought my first Christmas presents over the weekend too. So excited for the holidays!
Time to do some homework! Finals this week and next!

How early do you start to listen to Christmas music?
P.S. I didn’t forget about Thanksgiving!
