Get Some Fruit in Your Life

March 15, 2012 by Amanda R DeWitt

Hello Friends!

In most of my WIAWs I’ve said that I really need more fruit in my diet.

I eat a banana or apple most days weeks, however I am not a big fan of berries.

Something about the texture bugs me, not to mention the fact that they seem to go bad pretty quickly.  I’ve also had my fair share of sour fruit so when I am at the grocery store, I don’t have the biggest inclination to buy them.

The thing is, berries are so good for you!  They are loaded with vitamin C as well as antioxidants.  Blueberries contain phytochemicals that scientists think help prevent cancer. (source)

I decided that enough was enough and I was going to try frozen berries in a smoothie.

Perfect for the newly warm weather right?

Berry Healthy Fruit Smoothie
Snack/Post-workout drink size (double the recipe for a breakfast meal)

  • 1/2 heaping cup frozen berries
  • 1/2 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 3/4 cup soy milk (or just enough to cover berries)

~my little blender takes awhile to blend, so I let the contents sit for a bit (10-15 min) to let the berries de-freeze~

So although I am not the biggest fan of berries, I love the taste of them when blended up in this healthful smoothie.

It was also amazing after my toasty run yesterday.  (77 degrees out!!?)

The only thing to worry about is getting seeds stuck in your teeth…but the seeds are good for you!  (Fiber.)

Off to partake in too many hours of Chemistry class!  Have a lovely Thursday all!

How do you get fruit in your life?

What is one food that you cannot eat because of the texture?
