Good Afternoon/Early Evening everyone!
The amazing Mama Sue has sent me her post so all I have to do is share it with you all! This is quite a convenient thing since I’ve been a little under the weather and haven’t even cooked..at all (no new recipes) or worked out (except for a lil walk with a friend today).
If you are new to the blog, my Mama Sue is working on losing 50 pounds in 50 days! This is week 8 (according to Mama Sue…although I have it written based on the weeks she’s written posts?? Will figure this out!!).
Catch up on her story on my Mama Sue 50/50 Weight Loss Tab. Feel free to leave her a comment on that page or on here. She loves your encouragement!! 🙂

So without further ado (sp??) and because I must shower after the walk I just took (pushed a stroller 2 miles LOL) here is the marvelous mother of four, talented writer, and weight loss champ: Mama Sue!
{Keeping it Simple
I bought a new scale to weigh myself on. The old one has seen better days, and it felt like the part I stand on was caving in, so I bought a new scale at Target, since they are all on sale this week.
So many choices! Large number, bright readouts, fat and water measuring devices (how does THAT work?!!?). Anywhere from $15 to $30, and I think the battery is included. But somehow, being the luddite that I am, I couldn’t bring myself to buy a bathroom scale that needs BATTERIES. I bought a simple, easy-to-use, standard scale for $7.

When I got it home, of course I had to try it out.
I really hate to weigh myself, always have; I needed to brace myself, steel my nerves and step on that scale as if it didn’t matter at all. And when I saw the numbers hit 195, I literally jumped for joy! (Ask my 11-year-old. She thinks I’m nuts.) Ten pounds down! One fifth of the way toward my goal! And this is week #8, since I am counting from when I was weighed by my doctor (the first week of August).
Doesn’t seem like a whole lot, perhaps, in this world of Biggest Losers who are disappointed with anything less than a ten-pound weight loss for one week’s time. But I have decided to keep it simple and not stress about it too much. Nutritionists say that 1 to 2 pounds per week is a reasonable weight loss. And it allows me to do this thing gradually without going overboard and getting mad at myself if I haven’t achieved an unreasonable goal. Simple.
So far I have kept my exercise pretty simple, too. I walk a lot more than I used to, and I’ve made a few simple changes in what I eat every day. Nothing fancy, nothing too drastic, and I am free to make changes every now and then when it suits me. I have cut back on the mochas, desserts (well, somewhat), and other fattening habits I have had in the past. I really think about every bite I put in my mouth: is it satisfying? Is it filling me up with healthy food so that the unhealthy food is not so tempting? If I am craving chocolate and I just ate some earlier, I reach for a yogurt instead and then get busy doing something else so I don’t think about the less-than-good-for-me foods.
And even when I don’t “feel” like walking, I get myself out there for at least a short walk, which feels better than not doing it at all. And sometimes I get out there and it feels so good that I walk much further than I expected. Simple, easy and inexpensive: that’s what I love about walking!
Keep it simple this week!}
She does have a point doesn’t she? Sometimes we can get all caught up in this fad diet and that guaranteed workout DVD that we don’t think about: okay, I know what I’m doing wrong and I know what I need to do, so let’s just do it! She’s lost 10 pounds simply by being prepared for her cravings, substituting healthier foods for unhealthy ones, and walking more. Not too bad huh?
