I did it! My very first race ever! And I think I am hooked!
It was a midnight race for a very respectable local charity downtown. It was very weird running that late as the sun is usually out when I am running, but I couldn’t have asked for better weather!
To tell you the truth, last night I really was not in the mood to run. A couple of friends that were going with me decided not to go (one had mono so that’s a decent excuse) so I was a little bummed. The BF was also running with me but I felt bad because he had no time to train and worked like 60 hours this week PLUS had to work at 6:30am…long day for the poor guy. I really didn’t want to be dragging him along so I was grumpy the whole 20 minute car-ride.
But then we got there. So many people who were pumped to run for this good cause, people warming up, free samples of energy drinks, sweet wedding-like music…then it got a little better.
We also got sweet BRIGHT yellow shirts and glow sticks. 🙂
No make-up Amanda 😉 |
The BF was a little tired. Also told me, “You’re like a mom. You have to have pictures of everything.” Um I don’t see the problem with that?? |
Since I have never run a race I had NO IDEA what it was going to be like. There were about 1200 people there and since it was a charity race, they had the serious runners line up on one side and the non-serious or walkers on the other. The BF and I decided to go on the serious side…but in the back. Strategy!
It was the best run I’ve ever had! Although I started out with a cramp in my side, it was so cool to run around downtown when it was dark and with people all around. And how fun is it to pass people? I’m sorry but I did a victory dance in my head every time I saw someone who had to stop and I was able to keep going. Is that mean?
Since the BF hadn’t run since…um…months ago, I was expecting him to stop and walk but he was a TROOPER! The first half of the 5K we did in 16 minutes and the second in 15 minutes (we had to run the course twice) so I am happy with that time. I am now glad that I have been running the ginormous hill in my neighborhood because at the end of the course there was a KILLER hill (that we had to do twice), well it was for everyone else. 😉 Yep, felt pretty good about that!
Post run food: banana and whole water bottle. Then when I got home (an hour later) I had cheerios, hodge podge cookie (I’ll get ya the recipe soonly!), another bottle of water, and some bedtime tea. Ahhhh..:-)
Overall, I loved running the race ESPECIALLY for such a good cause and I am so excited to run my 10K in 8 days!!
Time to get ready to go to TWO weddings today (okay two receptions).
Have a great weekend everyone!
