Yay for back to school!
I was in Chemistry class today, paying very close attention of course, and heard something that I decided to stick in my blog.
Entropy: the tendency toward disorder in the universe or any system (like my life)
Speaking of back to school…found this awesome pic in my Algebra book…math is fun? (Dwight’s calculator is in Jello. Classic!) |
My New Yorker Chemistry teacher (who talks really fast by the way) described to us the fact that in any system, disorder is natural and it takes work to create order in that given system.
Translate this into your everyday life. You might have work, class, home to take care of, laundry, kiddos to feed, homework, baking for the upcoming get-together, dishes, blogging…and oh yea..working out!
I know that for me, it is a challenge to figure out when all of these things fit in! So after I left my Algebra class yesterday, feeling the stress of homework assignments and quizzes, the lack of clean clothes to wear, the lack of fresh food to eat, needing to read for my upcoming bible study, AND the want to continue blogging even with my classes…I decided to get organized!
I already put my work schedule, class schedule, and my workout schedule in my blackberry.
Remember the cute case I got in the mail when I was making Oatmeal Bread? |
I also started writing out my planned blog posts in my calendar. I got the idea from a blogger who said to make an “editorial calendar.” (Can’t find the original post.) I also saw that Julie from Savvy Eats does this as well…and she’s a rock-star blogger so I must be on the right track. 🙂
I also wanted to plan some additional things that I felt would get away from me:
- bible reading
- my online class
- homework
- blogging
- networking (aka Facebook, Twitter)
- blog editing and re-arranging (I can spend hours on this)
I found this handy-dandy board that lists Monday through Sunday so I could make a rough outline of what my week should look like.
Here’s what I did:
- Write in essentials on the schedule that have a specific time such as class, work, and bible study.
- Pick the next most important thing, I chose bible reading (the B+B means Bible with Breakfast) because it always seems to get away from me.
- I scheduled 4 specific times to workout (w/o)because I know if I don’t start on time, it will get too late and it will be time for me to shower before I’ve worked out for the day.
- I also specified time frames for posting on my blog (1 hour) and networking (30 minutes). I currently have a timer going to keep me on track. It might sound silly, but posting can turn into blog surfing can turn into facebooking, etc. Gotta keep focused!
- Continue scheduling according to priority. Unfortunately blogging was the last thing I scheduled in…but hey I’m blogging now aren’t I?
- Color-coding is also a fun way to see with a quick glance what’s going on for the day.
After I wrote all of this out I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders! It helps me to stay productive if I know what needs to be done.
There are other things going on in my life besides what I listed out, of course. I also baby-sit a couple of times a week and pick up shifts at a coffee-catering place, plus weddings, other social events, laundry…etc. So even though I have this schedule, I will still have to try to remain flexible. It’s a balance!
“Blessed are the flexible for they will not be bent out of shape.” Chinese Proverb (?)
Well, the hour is almost up! I hope this helped if you are looking for ways to move your life AWAY from entropy! 🙂
Do you have your own way of organizing the chaos of your life? If so, please share!
