Hello friends and Happy Monday!
I don’t know about you, but sometimes I need to focus on the happy things in my life. I have one of those weird brains that naturally seeks out the negative in pretty much any situation, but I think with practice (and with these types of posts) we can train our brains to focus on the GOOD.
[ If you’re looking for the Inspire Me Monday Link-Up, it has moved to my new blog! ]
Truth be told, this post is later than planned because I had a rough night last night. Sometimes I get into those downward spirals where it starts out thinking about one bad (or even just annoying) thing and somehow I end up in a place where I’m convinced no one loves me and I’m an awful person with nothing going for me. It’s not true or logical at all, but it’s tough to tell myself that at the time.
So I decided I still wanted to put up this post because there really are a lot of happy things going on in my life right now!
Here are my happy things this week.
(in no particular order)
1. I’m still running!
I’ve kept to my running part of my half marathon training schedule and I think that’s a pretty good start. I’m also making sure to stretch and foam roll like crazy. I even did my long run before we headed to central Nebraska on Saturday for a wedding!
2. Dave and I got to dress up this weekend!
This happens once every few months and being that I live in workout clothes, it felt pretty good. I was running (no pun intended) a tad late, so my hair had to air dry in the car, but I also had time to do my make-up while Dave drove (<-fun note, I just typed “drived” instead of drove…oh boy). Usually I do my make-up in about 30 seconds, but it was fun to play with it for a little longer.
We also got to have some delicious margaritas since we had two freaking hours to kill between the ceremony and reception. I think I have a soft spot for tequila and margaritas since I worked at Chili’s when I turned 21 (and didn’t totally overdo it).
3. I have the cutest and most entertaining cat in the world.
I seriously miss her even when I’m gone a day.
[ you can follow her hashtag on IG here: #zoeyfluffybutt ]
She’s very sassy and stubborn (she may or may not get her stubbornness from me ) so sometimes she gets timeouts, but I swear my heart explodes when she sits on my lap and purrs (especially since she isn’t a very cuddly cat). It sounds silly to a non-pet parent, but I can’t even remember what life was like before this ball of fluff came around.
4. Courtney got an apartment!
I know, I don’t think I mentioned it at all, but my sister Courtney was dealt a rough hand of cards and was kicked out of her apartment a little over a week ago (we think they were basically raising rent, but she had just signed a new lease. their BS excuse was that her apartment was “dirty” because there were dishes in the sink. gah.). As you may know, I’ve been staying with the Daddio the past couple of months while Dave looks for a job, so when my sister and tornado of a energetic nephew moved in…it’s been a little crowded and stressful for all of us.
I swear, my dad is a freaking saint for putting up with us!!
5. This is the big one of the list: Dave got a job!!
I kind of want to throw streamers and pop those annoying party favor things because it’s been 4 months since he was forced to leave his last job in Minnesota! It’s kind of crazy how long it takes to get a new job. I think a lot of us thought Dave would be a shoe-in with his connections and experience, but it turns out a lot of places want a master’s degree now. So he found a job in a different field installing AV equipment which seems to have a lot more perks than his last job. Less money, but also less kill-yourself-for-the-job mentality. Woot!!
Besides Dave having an income, this also means that we can start to look for houses and think about setting a date. Both happy things, if you ask me.
6. This hardly compares to Dave’s win, but I also got a new job!
Does anyone remember when I used to work at a coffee catering company? Well, one of the employees I worked with (and very much liked) bought the company a couple of years ago. We have stayed in touch and she has been asking on and off to come back…so finally I caved in. I really think this will be a good move not only because the boss and money is better, but I’m also trying to get her to let me help with social media (because I’m obsessed with it AND want to see the company grow). Cross your fingers I can convince her!

Hopefully this new job will lead to less job rants, especially since my new boss reads my blog..ha!
I said this in my post on the other blog, but I really feel like the clouds have parted and things are on the upswing. I know there will always be something to complain about or something that can be improved, but I’m feeling hopeful and excited about life for the first time in awhile.

Stephanie @ Wholesome Paradise
Yay! Happy things! Something happy in my life is I just signed a teaching contract for kindergarten. And because of that, I am going to need many of those delicious-looking margaritas. Kindergarten teachers drink the most out of all the kinds of teachers.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Congratulations on signing your teaching contract, Stephanie! I can imagine those rugrats being tough to deal with haha. Margaritas to the rescue!
Amanda @ .running with spoons.
Yay for all the happy things! And I know what you mean about liking to dress up every now and again. I basically live in workout clothes myself, but being able to put on some fancy clothes, do my hair, and actually get SEEN that way is all sorts of awesome. And then I come home, instantly muck up my hair and fly into my PJs lol….
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Yes it’s good for a couple of hours and then the blisters on the feet start haha!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets
So much good news – congratulations to you and Dave on your new jobs! That must be a huge relief! What a cute kitty…I really want to get a cat but probably won’t until I move again next year. Happy Friday!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Thanks so much, Janelle. It really is a huge relief on both parts!!
I highly recommend getting a cat. 🙂
