As you may know, I’m currently preparing for my biggest race this year: The Monster Dash 10 miler! I’ve even done a couple of my training runs while battling a cold…which isn’t something I normally do. I really want to complete the race!
Fall is one of those times where the weather is quite unpredictable. It might be 60 degrees but super windy (like it was in Nebraska for my 7 mile run-walk), or it might even be in the 40s and sunny.
It could even be snowing. I mean, this is Minnesota.
My solution: layers.
I know for a fact that I will have a couple of layers on for my upcoming race (half of my costume is that zebra running jacket!). I’m going to share with you some factors to take into account as well as some of my favorite Target® C9 running pieces.
Disclosure: This post was sponsored by Target® C9 through their partnership with POPSUGAR Select. While I was compensated to write a post about Target® C9, all opinions are my own.
The key to semi-cold weather running is to dress for slightly warmer weather. It’s common sense that you will warm up when running, but sometimes it’s hard to nail down exactly how warm you will be. I know the formula for cold weather running is to dress like it’s 20 degrees warmer…but what about fall weather??
There are a number of factors that come into play:
Current temperature. Self-explanatory.
Temperature it will be by the end of the run/race. Sometimes it warms up if the sun is coming out during your run or race.
Wind chill factor. Wind is a huge factor for me when it gets chilly out because for whatever reason, my ears are super sensitive. I know if it’s below 50 degrees with any kind of wind that I need something to cover up my ears.
Wait time. When you’re at a busy race or a fun run, you may be outside an hour or more before running.
Post run. I’m not quite sure of the science behind it, but sometimes after long runs you feel freezing. That’s how I was after my half-marathon last year.
Make sure you take all of those things into account when leaving the house for your fall run or race!

Now here is some of my favorite Target® C9 fall gear this year!
1. Target® C9 Mesh Short with Compression
These shorts have a truly amazing combination. First of all, they have the benefit of the compression which has been shown to promote blood flow and prevent swelling. Then they have the benefit of not having to show off your rear end to the entire world with super tight shorts..or is that just me?
You can also look at it the other way where you have an awesome, flowy running short that has the benefit of an extra layer so your booty doesn’t get too cold. Perfect for the fall weather, right?
2. Target® C9 Premium Pullover
This is my absolute favorite running jacket. It’s lightweight, has tons of specific spots for breathability and the key factor: thumb holes.
When the jacket zips up, it basically forms a turtleneck so it’s quite warm. Then of course it can be unzipped when you need to cool off a bit. Perfect for fall weather, right?
There’s even a zipper pocket on the back of the sweatshirt. I wouldn’t put more than maybe a key and tissues in it (<—essential for colder weather running!) because unless the pullover is tight on you, the items will bounce around and become uncomfortable.
3. Target® C9 Running Socks
Okay, these aren’t fall specific, but I need to tell you about these socks.
These socks have compression around the arch, which as we said before is good for blood flow and swelling (believe me, your feet swell after running 7 miles). They also have extra padding around the toes which are very susceptible to injury AND they have a shield of extra fabric around the heels to protect against blisters. These running socks are even breathable and wick moisture.
I think that about covers every foot issues while running!
I am fairly certain I own all the colors of this sock because I wear them on a daily basis. I even spied online that they have a new running sock with “double heel shield!” Excuse me while I head over to order a pack (or three!).

That running jacket is adorable! I’m going to check them out the next time I’m at Target! I’ve been looking to add more running pullovers to my collection this fall.

I love that the shorts with compression have a patterned compression layer!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Right?? So cute! And they have multiple colors!
Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother Runner
I don’t usually think to look there for running gear but those shorts are cute and you can’t beat the price!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Oh man that’s probably where I buy over half my workout clothes! Usually when I’m there for something else haha
AJ @ NutriFitMama
Love the shorts. I went to Target the other day and found a ton of cute things on clearance. I need to check out their section for doe winter gear..it’s starting to get cold! Thanks for sharing.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Omg sometimes I find the best things in the clearance item! I found an $8 dress I wore to a wedding about a month ago! (linking the post below!)

Hehe love that last photo!!! i have a pair of shorts with compression bike shorts built in, but they ride up to much with my leg shape. I do agree with layers. Right now I’m still wearing shorts or capris with tshirts, but I know the long sleeves are going to come out soon!
Mollie @Sprinkles of Life
🙂 🙂 🙂
I’m already wishing for another get together scheduled with you lovelies!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Ummm yes please!! 🙂
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Hmm I bet it’s different riding a bike versus running. I can still do t-shirts depending on the time of day but early mornings are definitely long sleeves for this wimp! 😉 And we need to get together for a run again!!
Mollie @Sprinkles of Life
I’m thinking I’ll have to try our those socks! Look super comfortable!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I love them! Seriously have over a dozen pairs!!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus
Cute! Love the shorts :). I usually do capris with a light, long-sleeve top or shorts with knee-high compression socks, a tank, and a light jacket. I also usually rock some sunglasses since I run as the sun rises. As for Fall races, I did a Spartan Race a few weeks back but I’m rally excited for the Rocky Balboa 5K next month. I’ll be running it with my mom – it’s her first race ever!! Good luck this weekend! You’ll be awesome 🙂
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I’m a fan of running in capris too! I still have never come around to running with those knee-high compression socks though although I do want a pair to wear for when I’m on my feet at work all day!
That is so awesome your mom is doing her first race!! And a Rocky Balboa one sounds awesome!!
Brittany
Target has FANTASTIC workout clothes!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE them.

I’ve never tried their socks, I’m going to have to now. I love target’s sports bras for their colors, and the price. I really can’t beat the cost and cute factor of Target.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
“can’t beat the cost and cute factor of Target” <-my thoughts EXACTLY!

I love target workout gear for just about everything! I’ve yet to get in on the thumb-hole thing, maybe with my next zip up.
Good luck racing this weekend!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Yess get in on the thumb holes!
Smitha @ RunningwithSDMom
Those shorts look super confortable and super cute!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut

Jen @ SavedbytheKale
Target is awesome! That running jacket looks super cute! My next race is in November. a Turkey Run, should be fun! 🙂
