I am a tad obsessed with this new protein Frappuccino I’ve been whipping up with Skoop protein powder as of late. And a tad obsessed with the Skoop protein itself and all of its marvelous ingredients.
I seriously had the hardest time trying to name this deliciocity that is basically a blended coffee protein drink (with frozen strawberries…I die.).
Why?
The literal description doesn’t sound fancy enough and the cool names I would come up with involving the words “mocha” and even the settled upon “Frappuccino” don’t technically fit.
As a current café worker and former barista coffee cart girl (4 years thank you very much), I’ve developed a bit of coffee snobbery. And a cool new vocabulary.
A lot of coffee terms can be confused by your average person who happens to decide to walk into a random coffee shop and order a cappuccino. I have decided to take today to explain a few terms so you too can be an expert.
Barista Vocab 101:
Espresso- basically concentrated coffee that is thicker, lighter in color and with a bit of “crema” or cream-like foam on top. Most people think the caffeine content is higher than regular coffee, but this isn’t always the case.
Latte- espresso and steamed milk with a thin layer of milk foam on top
Cappuccino- espresso with half steamed milk and half milk foam.
Mocha- a chocolate latte.
Frozen mocha- blended chocolate latte, usually with an ice cream base of some sort (no joke).
Frappuccino- a trademarked Starbucks frozen beverage.
Iced Coffee- cold coffee with ice (not blended).
Café au lait- coffee with milk (my five years of French classes finally paid off—oui oui!)
You want to remember that with cold coffee drinks, “frozen” means blended with extra stuff in it for texture purposes and iced means your drink cold with ice. You also want to note that ordering a latte or cappuccino does not mean it will come out sweetened like that weird concoction you can obtain from a machine at your local gas station. Those are two of the most common mistakes I encountered in my coffee cart days.
[Tweet “Barista talk 101: frozen vs iced; latte vs cappuccino and more!”]
I decided I was okay with stealing the term “Frappuccino” because it is so universally recognized with cold coffee drinks. Much like Kleenex and Q-tip which are also copyrighted names, but are used in place of tissue and cotton swab.
So now that I took an impossibly long time to explain coffee drinks and justify why I straight up stole a word from good ol’ Starbucks, allow me to introduce to you my heavenly coffee beverage creation:
Frozen Strawberry Protein Frappuccino
All you do is make your coffee as you like it (cream, milk, sugar, almond milk, etc) and stick it in the fridge for an hour or so (you could do this before bed too in order to have it ready when you wake up). Then you pour 6-8 ounces of your chilled coffee into a blender container, add some protein powder (preferably Skoop), ice and (the kicker) some frozen strawberries and blend away.

Skoop B Strong Protein
I’ve been making variations of this for a couple of weeks now, ever since I first got my hands on Skoop B Strong protein powder. I find that I hardly ever drink all of my coffee since I’m also chugging water with breakfast and when I do drink it all at once, I get all jittery from the caffeine. So I stick it in the fridge after breakfast and whip up my smoothie for a mid-morning snack. Adding protein to the coffee also helps take the edge off of the caffeine. 🙂
When I got a sample of Skoop B Strong protein, I knew immediately after reading the list of ingredients and nutrients that this was a product I wanted in my life on a regular basis. Veggie protein packed with essential aminos and vitamins that actually tastes good!
I even signed up as a Skoop seller for the sweet discount and opportunity to make a little moolah (you get a discount too just for buying from me!).
Skoop B Strong Protein Likes:
- Taste. We have a protein with similar main ingredients, but it does NOT taste as good. It’s not over-powering; just a nice, subtle vanilla flavor.
- Plant protein. Non-dairy protein means there is no chance of it hurting my lactose-sensitive tummy!
- So. many. vitamins and nutrients!
- Essential aminos which are building blocks for muscles.
- Fun company that uses social media (I like a company that will tweet back at ya or comment on Instagram!).
- No weird extra unnecessary ingredients.
- GMO free!
- Very bioavailable, which means your body can actually USE the nutrients (and they won’t be lost in your urine like some supplements).
Skoop B Strong Protein Dislikes:
- Pricey, which is to be expected from quality product, but it bears mentioning because I know I’m not made of money. I still love the stuff, so I decided to become a seller which knocks off a good chunk!
- I had an issue finding the scoop in the Skoop…hint: if your scoop settled in the bag, try finding it with a fork! Works like a charm.
In addition to a yummy recipe, you are all getting an opportunity to win a whole bag of Skoop B Protein and your very own Skoop shaker!
Good luck guys!

Sam @ PancakeWarriors
I love blending my coffee with protein powder! This protein looks great and I love the pro that the company will interact with you on social media! Love that! I was a barista for a few years in college! I wish they would have posted your informative post in the window! People always thought their cappuccino was going to taste like what comes out of the gas station machine lol! I figured out really quick that I needed to ask people exactly what they were expecting out of a “cappuccino” among other drinks! Thanks for the post – great recipe!
Domi @ Eat, Pray, Lift
Can’t wait to try Skoop! I’ve been searching for a plant-based protein, and I think Skoop might be “the one!” 😉 Your frappuccino looks delicious, by the way…and as a current part-time barista and full-time coffee lovaahh, that’s a professional opinion!
Christine
It’s important to me that a protein powder comes from a plant source because I’m a vegetarian. I do eat dairy, but if I try to keep it to a minimum.
Audrey Adams
I want to try the Skoop B Strong!!!
Sarah T

I would love to try Skoop– I have been having a hard time finding a good, plant-based, non-dairy protein powder. I currently use a Hemp-Pro but it has a strange aftertaste so I definitely would love to try Skoop B powders! The “renewberry” and sweet greens both sound delicious!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Yes it’s challenging to find a dairy free protein that tastes great and isn’t packed with sugar!! That’s why I love Skoop!
Katherine

Honestly, taste is one of the things that matters the most to me. It doesn’t matter how great it is for me if I can’t choke it down.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Oh my gosh..so true!! What’s the point if you are left with a gross taste in your mouth?? You’re just going to go look for something else to eat if you do manage to choke it down!
Katy B
I would love to try the scoop protein! It looks easy to use and blend into drinks…
Sarah
It has to be vegetarian.
Melissa @ Mango About Town
I look for plant based proteins!
Tessa
Flavor is the most important factor for me. Doesn’t matter how healthy it is, if I can’t drink it, it won’t get used
liz l
It should be plant based but I would probably try anything at least once
