15 Smoothie Recipes You Should Try This Summer

May 19, 2014 by Amanda R DeWitt

Although it’s been in the 50s lately in good ol’ Minnesota (and snowed up north last week), we can still dream of summer, right?

Not that smoothies should only be made in the summer…I make dozens a day at the cafe no matter what the weather is like. Believe me, we have had some pretty crazy cold days. Try negative 30s. I asked myself quite a few times “why do I live in this frozen tundra??” over this past winter.

It’s okay though, the weather is definitely bearable and even quite enjoyable for running outdoors now. I even think in the next couple of weeks it might get warm enough to crave one of these frozen smoothie recipes. Hopefully.

I had a lot of fun gathering smoothie recipes (mostly from bloggers I know and love) for this post over at Lifehack and wanted to share this little teaser with you. (It’s a good thing I had fun with it because this time I documented time spent versus dollars paid…and it wasn’t pretty. Us writers don’t do it for the money, though…right?? Who needs housing and food and clothing? πŸ˜‰ )

Plus I am running low on time as I’ve spent the whole weekend in my hometown in Nebraska, hanging out with family and getting all emotional about my brother moving to Kansas City. Because it’s soooo far awayyyy!!! (<-dramatic much?)

brother Josh is awesome

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know how mushy I got over the whole thing.

So freaking proud if my little brother! Today he’s leaving Nebraska to work for Garmin in KC and live with his boyfriend. He graduated last weekend with a double major in Math and Computer Engineering (or something smart like that) plus a minor. Last night I witnessed his amazing swing dancing. To top it off he’s one of the kindest people you will ever meet. Seriously sad he’s moving away but excited to see what KC has to offer him. Love you so much little bro! //end mushy post

I also got to hang out with the cutest nephew in the world. He is so grown-up!

We chatted about cellphone plans over lunch. πŸ˜‰

The food on his chin is the cherry to this absolutely adorable nephew sundae.

Anyways…. back to the smoothie recipes!

You should check out my full post of

Aside from the last one that is…the Orange Push-Up Smoothie does have added sugar (one of my requirements of being categorized as “healthy”), but I just couldn’t resist throwing it in with the other smoothie recipes.

See? How can you resist? This picture practically screams summer!

[Thanks to everyone who suggested recipes for me to check out! If I didn’t include yours, it was only because I had similar flavors/colors already or the image wasn’t large/high-quality. Pretty please don’t take offense! πŸ™‚ ]

Welp, I’m off to jump into a car again for 6-7 hours! Hope you have a great Monday, friends!

I’ve just started having a green smoothie each morning on my way to work and they are a lot less spectacular looking than these guys. More like thick and creamy..swap water. At least it tastes good, haha!

    • Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut

      May 20, 2014 at 5:38 pm

Yes these are definitely the best smoothies I’ve come across. When you start mixing greens and berries and powders it can get a little sketchy color-wise. Sometimes I hand people their smoothies at the cafe and want to apologize…but the smoothies that look gross are for the customers that make up their own ingredients so they obviously know what TASTES good to them! πŸ™‚
