Hey all! Hope you had a lovely weekend!
Mine was quite eventful.
For starters, I painted my nails. I know, right? I had nail polish sitting out all week with the intention of treating myself to some pink and sparkly fun, but I found a reason not to paint them each day. Seriously..who has time for nails to dry??
I’ve since put a clear coat on each day so I never have to go through the process of taking sparkly polish off ever again!! (kidding..I wish! I chipped them immediately.)
We also took down our Christmas trees. I know you are proud. I confessed last week that we still had the Christmas trees up and it turns out Valentine’s Day weekend was just too soon for us to part with the twinkling lights.
Then, after being secluded to my apartment due to 10+ inches of snow (and having an awesome boss who told me to stay home) for a couple of days, I was fully immersed in the snowy wonderland that is Minnesota. On Saturday, Dave and I had the pleasuring of hanging out with Lee‘s sister, Michelle, and her friends for Crashed Ice.
Michelle was having a little pre-gaming get-together for the event at her house. I brought cookies. Because that’s how you make friends, right? (don’t you worry, my recipe for my classic chocolate chip cookie creation is coming!)
Crashed Ice is this carazy thing where they set up an ice track over and around downtown St Paul. Then a number of skaters from all over the world raced down the tracks. Another terrifying twist was when they brought out a few daredevils on bikes to ride the course.
I froze my booty off walking to the event and just standing outside in single digit temps in the snow (we had to sneak into the St Paul Cathedral a couple of times to thaw out), but I got over 18k steps in for the day which made me happy as my more recent fitbit track record hasn’t been too great. I also met some pretty cool people and had an amazing burger at a local restaurant/bar which is definitely a plus! I so appreciate Lee’s sis letting me crash her Crashed Ice get together. (I’ll be here all week folks.)
Sunday was spent listening to music and finding actual spots to put the Christmas trees and decor in our one bedroom apartment. This was masterfully done by getting rid of other crap we have surprisingly accumulated in our short stay here.
While I was cleaning things out, I discovered an envelope with a bunch of ticket stubs I’ve saved over the years. A lot of them were fun things Dave and I have done together over our five years of dating (we are coming up on 6 years in May…eeek!).
Recently I decided (during one of my cleaning sprees) that I wanted to use one of the dozen vases Dave has bought me to fill with good memory type things we’ve done since moving to the twin cities.
Sometimes I get super homesick and lonely with our lack of friends up here (cross your fingers one or two from this weekend stick!). I also feel like we haven’t really experienced much of the area we live in due to Dave’s work schedule, my budget and the whole friends thing…so I thought this jar would help remind me of the things we HAVE done here. I’m also hoping it will give us more motivation to keep filling it up!
Even though those tickets I found this weekend weren’t from our time in the TC area, I still felt the desire to throw a small portion of them into our fun things vase. I suppose I like to get nostalgic.
Fun things jar ticket stub occupants thus far:
- Minnesota State Fair [2013]
- Christmas with the Omaha Symphony [2008/2009..although we’ve been a number of times]
- Andre Rieu (violinist) and his orchestra concert in Omaha [2009]
- College World Series tickets from the Omaha Rosenblatt Stadium [2010 (one of the last times it was held there!)]
- Nutcracker at the Omaha Orpheum [2008]
- Josh Groban Concert in Omaha [2011]
- Cirque du Soleil at Omaha Qwest Center [2010 (it’s now called the Centurylink center)]
- Crashed Ice! [2014]
- Despicable Me 3D in Omaha [2010 (I know I have the Despicable Me 2 ticket somewhere…we saw the second one here!)]
I know we will be adding another one soon…dinner at the Chanhassen Dinner theatre for the Little Mermaid. Watch out. I might sing along the entire time. The Disney Pandora station tends to come on quite frequently on late night drives between here and Omaha so I’ve been practicing. ๐
The weekend was wrapped up with some Walking Dead, writing my Justin’s giveaway post (seriously, you’re gonna want to check it out) and staying up way too late for a 4am wake-up watching the Talking Dead and tweeting about my latest show obsession. I keep telling myself I can just DVR the show and watch it the next day…but I can’t help myself.
Tell me….
How was your weekend? Did you do anything new or exciting?
What would you put in your jar? Have you done something like this? I know I’ve at least seen Katie and Julie do something similar. ๐

Thank you for reminding me about the little mermaid! I knew something good was coming, but couldn’t remember what! I haven’t been to chanhassen in forever and am so excited to go!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Are you planning on going? We are going this weekend!
Maria
Those cookies look perfect! Sometimes just a good old classic chocolate chip cookie is all you need.
I’m horrible at painting my own nails. It looks so bad. I think a 5 year old could do better. You must give me your tips ๐
I’ve been wanting to buy coffee mugs from the places we visit and travel too, but I’m out of kitchen cabinet space!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
You should see the nails in person…when you look closely it’s not that great haha
The coffee mug thing is a good idea! Shot glasses take up less space. ๐

I’ve tried the jar things- ‘moments’ I called it and would write down exciting things that happened, like moving in with my boyfriend, concert, or vacation memories. Sadly participation has waned over the months. And nothing really exciting happened last weekend- though we did grill out with some friends- it was pretty warm for February in DC!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
I don’t think I knew you lived in DC! I had a couple of friends move there last year!
and you can always pick up where you left off with your moments jar! ๐
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
I haven’t tried the fun jar, but it’s a brilliant idea! You could have ones with themes, one for years and even holidays. The possibilities are endless!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Ohh so true!! You would need a lot of jars though! ๐
Hannah @ CleanEatingVeggieGirl
Yay Omaha! I am hoping to go to the CWS this year ๐
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
It’s funny because things like CWS and the Henry Doorly Zoo were such normal things that I definitely regret not taking advantage of them when I lived in Omaha! It would be fun to try to go together this year!

Crashed Ice sounds fun… and those cookies! Yum! The fun things in a jar is such a great idea. I sometimes want to keep memorabilia, but I’m over doing scrapbooks (did it in high school and college, and it was a lot of work and $!). This is a great idea!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
I used to scrapbook too! i think that’s why I like blogging..I can jot down my memories and put pictures out there and be a little creative. ๐

I have a box that holds all of my ticket stubs and I make a box for each trip we take that holds maps, brochures, nick knacks we pick up, etc. I love looking through them, I go right back to the trip with so many memories. Such a fun idea!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Ohh that’s a great idea! Do the boxes take up a lot of room? Or are they really small?
Brynn Guster
No, they are the size of a shoe box and stack nicely. Then I label them so I know what is in each box. Very organized and easy to find!
Becky @ Olives n Wine
I LOVE that jar idea!! Although I rarely do things that require tickets (I’m lame-o) so my jar would be quite sad looking. And love the glitter over the nail polish – I always chip mine too and have to do the same thing, hahah!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
haha you just spent a week on a beach so I’d hardly call you lame-o!! ๐ I just wrote crashed ice on a notecard and stuck it in the jar since it was free to watch from where we were. ๐

I love Disney Pandora (almost as much as my Musical Theater Pandora)! That jar of stubs is so cute, I have a ton of old ones in a box somewhere. I want to do one of those cute frame projects like you see on Pinterest… someday ๐
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
hmm I haven’t seen the frame projects but oh my gosh Pinterest makes me feel so uncreative haha! So many amazing diy projects pinned that I will “someday” complete! ๐
Alex @ Alex Runs For Food
Confession!! I just took down my Christmas tree last weekend ๐
Also I can’t remember if you already posted the winner of the energybits but if you want you can share the coupon code alexrunsforfood (all lowercase) for a 30% discount!!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
I have not posted it yet, but I am thinking about becoming an ambassador as well! I might use yours to get my first bag though. ๐
Meghan@CleanEatsFastFeets
Yeah, the Christmas tree is finally down. Confession: I left mine up late this year because I had company and they really liked it. Even with that, it came down a few days into January and that was really late for me.
Your fun jar is a great idea. I keep all that memorabilia along with cards in a box in the closet. I’ve actually got three boxes full of stuff now.
I love The Little Mermaid. Look at this stuff. Isn’t it neat. Wouldn’t ya think my collections complete.
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Wouldn’t you think I’m a girl… a girl who has..everything? <3
Lee's Sister
The cookies really were fantastic!!!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Aww I’m glad!! I need to share that recipe soon!
