Killer post title, right? I bet you are so intrigued by what the heck a “secret” green smoothie is and how you can complete a workout in only 5 minutes. Rest assured, I will reveal these things soon enough.
First, I want to tell you about how cold it is here. Ha! I think it is cold everywhere…record lows or something. It was -26 degrees when I left my apartment. Negative. Without wind chill. I think with wind chill it was -49.
But you see here in Minnesota, it’s like the White Witch from Narnia got together with Jack Frost who teamed up with that scary monster in Rudolf and together they made it so cold it hurts your face to walk to your car. Even a car inside a parking garage. Of course there are record lows so cold that schools (and even some grocery stores?!) are cancelled is my first morning back to work after the holidays!!
Thanks for listening. My rant didn’t show up on Instagram with my Huevos wrap picture. I really am blessed though to be able to park in a closed garage at my apartment and park super close to a door at work (when I arrive at 5am). Plus Dave got me remote start for Christmas, so rest assured, I probably won’t freeze to death this winter. Probably.
So… if it is super cold in your neck of the woods and you don’t feel like going to the gym (apparently everyone still goes to the gym here in Minnesota…we were super busy at work today!!), check out this home workout!
You can do this a few ways:
1. Use this 5 minutes as a pre-workout warm-up since you hit all the major muscle groups and there are even short stretches involved.
2. Repeat a few times for a good workout.
3. Do this every hour so you don’t freeze your tush off!
5 Minute Winter Workout/Warm-Up:
- 10 burpees
- 10 push-ups
- 20 backwards lunges
- 80 second total plank change up (start in the middle 20 seconds, switch to one side 20 seconds, back to middle 20 seconds, switch to other side 20 seconds)
- 30 second child’s pose
- 30 second cobra pose
- 20 jumping jacks
- 20 squats
- 30 second toe-touch stretch
for warm-up: complete series, shake it out, get your workout on.
for workout: repeat 3-4 times
for a challenge: add 5 sets or seconds (depending on workout) to each set, each time you repeat
*Note that at the bottom of each post there is a “print friendly” button so you can print this workout if you wish! ๐
And if you are inside, nice and toasty, a smoothie will actually cool you off after your workout!
A [secret] Green Smoothie to be more specific.
I whipped this bad boy up a couple of times last week since I had little-to-no nutrients otherwise in the apartment. It’s called a “secret” green smoothie because it’s not green, but there is greenery within.
Use this recipe to trick your loved ones with green smoothie aversions. Please don’t tell Dave I’m sneaking spinach into his protein shakes and smoothies. ๐
And with that double-whammy of a post, I am more confident in 3 of my 2014 goals: quicker posts (editing less photos helped oodles!), sharing more recipes and sharing more workouts!
Stay warm, friends!
Tell me….
How do you sneak veggies or fruits into your day?
Is anyone else ready for spring??
PS I’m all about Pinterest this year, so I would LOVE IT if you could pin one (or two!) of these images. Just hover over the image to reveal the “pin it” button or use the handy dandy buttons at the bottom and top of each page (I know, right?). Also follow me so I can check out YOUR Pinterest account! ๐

I love the rich purple color of your smoothie! It’s so pretty!

This cold is CRAZY!! I love this smoothie! I usually just do bananas, but maybe tomorrow I’ll go crazy and do blueberries. ๐ xoxo

I know right?!
You should go crazy haha. Plus berries have tons of antioxidants and somehow I think that’s good for cold weather…being trapped indoors and whatnot. ๐
