Blogging 101: Be Delighted by Brittany

December 9, 2013 by Amanda R DeWitt

Oh hey, Monday.

Hey real life.

Hey working at 6:30 in the flippin’ morning. I can’t say that I missed you at all while hanging in Nebraska with the family.

Since I’m not a whole load of positive today, let me share a very lovely blogger with you who is: Brittany. This beam of light has a way of looking at the positive in what ever situation she is in. I’ve briefly met her at past Blend Retreats, but I have fallen in love with her on her blog Delights and Delectables and was therefore delighted (see what I did there?) when she was willing to share some blogging wisdom with us for my Blogging 101 series!

Enjoy and be inspired!

What do you blog about? How did you find your “niche?”

I mostly blog about life, my healthy living journey, and food… especially food allergies! I found my niche pretty easily, because I just write about what I’m passionate about. Sometimes I can go off on a tangent, but that’s just how my brain works. 😉

What is your ultimate goal as a blogger or for your blog?

My ultimate goal is to inspire people. Whether it is letting people know that they aren’t alone in their journey with food allergies or infertility, helping people to make healthier choices in life, or just giving them a place to come for encouragement and a good laugh, I want my blog to uplift people. After that, I want to inspire people to cook healthy and easy meals for their family. If I do one or both of these things, I have succeeded.

Where do you go for inspiration? Do you blog when inspired or do you blog daily?

My daily life and interaction with people-mostly my husband- inspires a lot of what I blog about, and so does food! Also, the amazing group of bloggers that I am friends/blends with inspire me! I blog Monday- Friday usually. These are posts that I feel inspired to write. If nothing is coming out, I don’t force it. I just take the day and move on.

How has the blogging community impacted you personally?

Oh goodness! You better cozy up… we could be here for a while! No really, after going to Blend 2012, I really got into blogging because of all the great personal connections I made. Several of my blog friends (blends) have become real life, very close personal friendships. So many of these girls have impacted my life in very deep and meaningful ways. Although we may have met through our blogs, I feel that God brought them into my life for a very specific purpose. For that I am eternally grateful.

What do your friends and family think of your blog?

Honestly, some don’t get it at all. They think I’m a bit weird… that’s okay though! Everyone is super supportive, especially Luvy (my hottie of a husband). He is so good at taking pictures, going to blogger meet-ups, and encouraging me along the way. Goodness, there for a year or so, Luvy and our immediate family and close friends were the only ones reading my blog!

What is something you would NOT do when starting a blog?

Try to be someone else. Be yourself. Be honest. Don’t support products or companies just because they offer you something. Stand your ground and don’t sell yourself short. People want to read your blog for who you are. There is nothing more unique than being YOU… you are the only you there is!

I very much agree  with Dr. Seuss Brittany on that last point! 😉 I’ve heard of bloggers purposefully taking on a different personality and it never seems to end well. Plus it seems like a lot of work, don’t you think?

Tell me…

Do you ever find yourself people-pleasing on your blog?

If you don’t have a blog, what would your focus be if you did start one?

Great guest post – Brittany is awesome!
I agree with both of y’all – best to just be who you are and not try to fit into a mold of any sort.
