I used to not share recipes because they weren’t “from scratch.” I would have never shared a recipe like this that had a pre-made crust and pre-made sauce. I thought in order to share a recipe it would have to be something that rivaled what Martha Stewart would come up with.
I have changed that thought process. Like changed it today. I have decided that just because I hodge-podge things together and don’t make my own noodles, dough or sauce from scratch does not mean I don’t have yummy recipes to share!
Dave saw these whole wheat Boboli pizza crusts and decided we should make some pizza over the Labor Day weekend. I had some hamburger in the fridge that for whatever reason I just couldn’t figure out what to do with.
Thus the Whole Wheat Saucy Hamburger Pepper Pizza (now say that five times fast) was born.
- 1 12″ whole wheat pre-baked crust ( we used Boboli)
- 1/2 lb ground hamburger
- 10 oz pizza sauce (we used 2 packets Boboli pizza sauce)
- handful of pepperoni
- 1 8 oz bag of mozzarella cheese (we used Sargentos)
- 1/4 cup chopped bell peppers
- 1/4 cup chopped onions
- oregano
- pinch of slighty spicy seasoning (we used Pepperjacks seasoning salt)

Normally I share an array of foods on WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday), but I am giving myself a break today (I hope new mama Jenn understands!). Although I was elated to start my new job yesterday, I later ruined the evening by hounding Dave to go workout with me. Never mind the fact that he works 80+ hour weeks. Never mind the fact that he is amazing in so many other ways. I wanted him to go to the gym with me and since he didn’t, it was the end of the flippin’ world. (Seriously Amanda?)
Later in the evening I realized that from one day of work at the gym, I had already started to become more focused on looking fit. I didn’t realize it until I went to the gym and saw myself in the mirror sideways that all of a sudden….I didn’t feel like I was in great shape. Whoa. Not good.
I really need to take a step back and make sure that I don’t become obsessed with fitness and health to the point that I am ruining my self-esteem and relationships. This job can be a wonderful experience full of possibilities and opportunities, but if I’m not careful, it could be very harmful.
I even started to feel guilty for making treats like the M+M Butter Cookie Bars. Not cool. This thinking needs to be turned around ASAP!
Needless to say, my evening was not so productive and now I have some freelancing and other things to catch up on, but that just means more foodie deliciousness for next week’s WIAW!! ๐
Hope you all have a lovely Wednesday, and head over to Jenn’s blog to tell her congrats on her new “chickpea!”
Have you ever worked at a gym? How did you deal with the pressure to look a certain way and eat certain things?
Do you make everything from scratch?
It’s sometimes hard to kick the “guilty feelings” but I try to remember that it is all about balance and that we deserve it!
So true Amy!!

There are many shapes, sizes and ages of people that work at our gym. ๐ Everything from scratch…? NO. I use canned sauces, packaged bread/rolls, but stay away from crackers, cookies, and pre-made dinners. You have to do what you can and leave the rest behind. <3
Yes there are lots of different people working at my gym, however I did my orientation computer stuff in the personal training area by all of the trainers lol. I had a better day today! ๐

i think we get so caught up in comparison, being the healthiest (or being healthier than others), eating clean 100%, being “fit” (but what is fit anyways?), we lose the view that we are an individual, we are not everyone or anyone else, and that what is healthy, fit, for us, may not be the same for others. actually its never the same. and it shouldn’t be. as long as you feel you are honoring YOUR body then that is all that matters. we are not made to be cookie cutters we are made to be unique and we need to accept and love ourselves for those differences.
i use to be so obsessed with eating clean, working out, being fit, but i was never happy. now i have learned to embraced my extra curves, love my thick thighs (i think its hot) and accept that sometimes i want pizza. and not home made healthy pizza. i’m honoring me, my wants, my needs and balancing it out. and if anyone judges me for that, that’s THEIR problem. not mine. remember to give yourself a break and not put so much pressure on being “perfect” people should love and accept you for who you are. i mean really, who wants a “perfect” friend. ๐
I absolutely agree with you, Debbie! Normally I have a fairly balanced perspective…I think it was just the one day doing orientation in the midst of all of the personal trainers, learning about “healthy” foods all day. Today was MUCH better!
I so appreciate your heart-felt comment!! <3

the only thing I make from scratch is salad… scratch that – I do use kraft dressing & pre-shredded cheese! I just don’t have the motivation or the time. Just cooking something period is a lot for me tbh… this pizza looks yummy. I’ve really been into english muffin pizzas lately but maybe should try for the big crust one time. If you ever want to experiment try breakfast pizza and post it on your blog! I haven’t quite figured that one out yet. p.s. congrats on the new job!
Okay thank you!! I need to get out of the mindset that if it’s not from scratch I can’t share it as a recipe!! That’s why probably 90% of my recipes are baked goods lol!
Ooooh breakfast pizza sounds good!! And thank you Shari!! ๐
