WIAW #73: Can’t Get Enough of These Eats

August 14, 2013 by Amanda R DeWitt

I had a strong urge to title this WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday) post with “What I’ve Been Eating Lately” but I get super annoyed when I see bloggers title their post “Lately.”  There is one in particular that I swear every time I see a post it is titled “Lately.”  If I demand a smidge of creativity from blogs I read then I darn well better demand it of myself, right?

With my week off from blogging and the previous week’s Most Popular WIAW posts, I haven’t had the opportunity to share what foods I’ve been obsessed with lately.  So I thought I’d do that today!

(More WIAW posts here!)

Multiple cereals with a dose of chocolate.
multiple cereals cheerios kashi go lean and m&ms mix it up

Multigrain Cheerios, Peanut Butter Cheerios, Kashi Go Lean cereals with M’n’Ms.  Why not mix up a bowl of healthy and sugar?

Alexia sweet potato waffle fries.
alexia sweet potato fries with mrs dash spicy ranch massive salad with spinach, romaine, chicken, carrots and a few craisins

Usually with spicy ranch I make using Mrs Dash Extra Spicy seasoning blend.  They are also a great compliment to a massive salad with spinach, romaine, chicken, carrots and a few craisins.

Bananas as a post-run snack.
bananas are perfect post-workout snack

Pepperidge Farm Oatmeal toast with peanut butter and sunflower nuts.
pepperidge farm toast with jif peanut butter and sunflower nuts
Or with jelly and a side of dessert.
peanut butter and jelly toast with chewy delicious cookie s'mores bars for breakfast on pretty white plate

Yep.  I did that.  I blame Becky for sending me home with the rest of her insanely chewy delicious cookie smores bars.  (Tell me when you post the recipe Becky!!)

If eating dessert with breakfast weirds you out, read Intuitive Eating.

When I allow myself to eat dessert whenever I want, I don’t crave it (or otherwise obsess over it) and I never go on binges.  If I recall correctly, all three times I did this (yep, three), I didn’t feel the need for anything sweet the rest of the day.  I’m still reading through that book, but it pretty much explains the way I’ve been eating most of my life (with a few exceptions which I will chat with you all about when I write up my review).

Fruity, fizzy drinks in mason jars.

Archer Farms Roasted Red Pepper Hummus with carrots or Pepperidge Farms Baked Naturals multigrain crackers.

Those crackers are so buttery and crisp you will need to portion them out to keep from inhaling the entire bag!

Tostitos Hint of Lime Chips with Wholly Guacamole.

Seriously this combo will make you want to die.  Not really.  But exaggeration is fun.

You can tell I cook from scratch a whole lot, huh?  I won’t tell you I’m a great chef, but I do know that making food at home and trying to integrate veggies and fruit into the mix is healthier than restaurant food any day!

Thanks for stopping by as I delay all of the things on my to-do list!  Blogging really is my favorite  form of procrastination!

Oh and it’s Dave’s birthday!!

me and boyfriend at first half marathon race lincoln nebraska
This guy.

He requested we head to Chili’s tonight and that I bake him another skillet cookie.
I also have to get him a present, card, finish laundry (I just re-started the dry cycle haha) and write up some freelance articles…wish me luck! ๐Ÿ˜‰

*~Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut~*

Have you ever had dessert with breakfast?
Do you cook everything from scratch?  Or are you like me and have favorite food brands to grab at the store?

Linking up to the lovely Jenn at Peas and Crayons.  Visit her blog for more WIAW!

I’m on and off from scratch, really depending on how life is otherwise, lol. Overall I don’t buy a lot of stuff from the store, but I don’t “fault” myself from doing it either.

Also, I really, really didn’t like those lime chips. My mom had a bag when I was home this weekend. Couldn’t stand them!!

I need to try a skillet cookie. First, though, I need to buy a skillet …

I guess my definition of “from scratch” is like at cooking class when we make our own sauces and french fries from potatoes, etc. I don’t really buy pre-made meals but usually box helpers and then add a bunch of stuff to them. ๐Ÿ™‚

And yes you need a skillet!! Although I need to “re-season” it…those cookies are hard to clean off and you’re not supposed to use soap on the skilets!

I read Intuitive Eating about a year ago when I decided to face my food struggles head on. It was extremely helpful, and I think I will actually read it again with a highlighter in hand! I can’t wait to hear what you think

There was a CD set I listened to awhile back, but this is the first time reading the book so I’m definitely taking notes! Glad the book helped you!!

I LOVE your eats this week. The fizzy drink.. fantabulous idea! CerealS with chocolate. Brinner. and I use Mrs. Dash on everything. Unfortunately, Costco doesn’t sell their big containers anymore. I should order it online or make up my own concoction. hey, there’s a thought. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m a real “from scratch” kind of gal. I love making everything homemade. Of course certain things taste better from the store (hello ice cream and blueberry muffin mixes ๐Ÿ™‚ ) but making up your own recipes is just so much fun! ๐Ÿ™‚

Oh my gosh, I love the m&m’s in the cereal!! I can’t believe I’ve never thought to do that! And I can get behind the dessert for breakfast thing 100%! Last summer, when I went to the farmers’ market on Saturday mornings, I would get a cookie from my favorite clean cookie baker (who happened to be gluten-free too!) and then I would come home, crumbled it over some Greek yogurt and call it done! I actually picked up some Biscoff cookies on sale at the store today with the intention of starting up my cookies for breakfast thing again (since my cookie lady isn’t at the market anymore….bummer!)

And omg, am I EVER going to get my crap together and type up a review of IE?! I have it about halfway finished, but I keep procrastinating (you know, by blogging about OTHER things! Haha!)

Happy (belated) birthday to Dave!! I hope you guys had a fun night!

I’m mostly a cook it myself kind of girl…but that’s probably because I get really antsy and making things in the kitchen soothes my anxiety. ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t had Hint of Lime chips in FOREVER, but those things are DELICIOUS.

Also, I have to admit I’m a bit jealous that intuitive eating is so natural for you. It is for my sister as well, and I think it used to be for me. I’m happy I’m in a much better place with all of that right now, but I still just can’ figure out why I don’t find it so easy to just EAT sometimes. Can’t wait for your review!

      • Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut

        August 16, 2013 at 8:53 pm

Well usually it’s natural for most people but they get away from it somehow.

I was never popular and most of my friends were heavier than me so it was kind of the joke that I ate whatever and was “skinny” but really I was just eating what I wanted when I was hungry and not eating when I was full (which I did get pressure to finish my food from friends but I just laughed it off) plus I always had to walk to and from school. Basically I never was pressured into dieting (if that makes sense) and always walked so my general fitness was decent.

I have, however, struggled a bit with recently reading certain blogs and/or following certain people on Instagram. I’m actually really glad I’m reading the book now and excited to finally give a review! ๐Ÿ™‚
