I am still having slight back issues. I have only successfully run about 2 miles in the past couple of months before wanting to puke.
But for some reason I signed up for the Des Moines half marathon.
It’s in October…that’s enough time to get my act together, right? PLUS I get to run this race with my lovely friends Calee, Alex and Katie!
I’ve been working on getting my act together in more ways than one….
- I am focusing on just getting outside and walking. Sometimes I just have to trick myself and say “you don’t even have to run if you don’t want to” to get my booty out the door. I usually get pumped up after the first half mile or so and want to run. Due to back issues though, I didn’t let myself run until Saturday. And it was glorious.
- I’ve also been foam rolling on a more consistent basis. It’s fun to do it in front of Dave so he can make fun of me and we can laugh together because it is truly an awkward thing.
Blogging.
- I’m trying to focus on my blog and not compare myself to others. Doing my own thing and not focusing on success (or failure) in the blogging world will ensure that I am actually happy writing and that those who stick around value me for me!
- I’m also working on blogging when I want to about what I want to. I keep waiting to share this delightful skillet cookie recipe with you on the perfect day of the week…but I just need to DO it! [UPDATE: I finally posted the skillet cookie deliciocity!]
- Reading other blogs for inspiration and NOT to copy them is the best solution I can come up with. I’ve gone through phases where I had to STOP reading other blogs all together, but at this point and with the amount of real life friends I have in the cities…I would miss reading them!
Job hunting.
- After I wrote the confessions post last Wednesday, I got to serious searching. That’s one nice thing about having a blog that you share your life with…the knowledge that at some point you probably have to follow up on promises! I updated my resume (still need the final touches) AND applied for three jobs at a gym (my ideal work place right now). I just need to keep that ball rolling!
- I did realize that after applying for the first job, it just got easier. If you are a perfectionist like me, sometimes the thing we need to do is just do SOMETHING.
Sleep schedule.
- If I’m going to get a job any time soon, I will most likely need to be able to get up early. Or at a particular time. The past couple of months have really jacked up my sleeping. Dave can fall asleep at the drop of a hat while I require about an hour to wind down from the day. After six weeks of struggling in this area, we finally have a “bedtime.” Yep, I’m the 26 year old with a curfew and bedtime.
- Hopefully this will help us get up early and be able to get Dave started on a workout routine (and get me back into strength training)! (Did I tell you guys that he’s lost around 10 pounds just from cutting down on the fast food?? I pack him a lunch and we eat most meals at home. Nothing fancy…restaurant food just isn’t the greatest for regular eating.)
And with that, it is about 8pm Sunday and I need to start my winding down. I do like typing up posts the day before they go live…less stress the day of!
Wish us luck on our new bedtime!
Do you have a bedtime? Should you?
What are things you are working on currently?

So excited (and freakishly nervous) about that 1/2 but really more excited because it means a weekend with blends!! 🙂

I try to go to bed by 10 most nights, but I have not mastered waking up early to work out. Then, it would probably need to be 9pm! I am also trying to grow my blog, and it is a lot of work, so I feel you!

Yeah we failed last night on the “bedtime” but are trying to move dinner to an earlier time to hopefully help it!

Thanks for your lovely and honest post….I agree with all of these goals and I feel that I’m working towards them in my life too. I am finding the winddown to be so hard, but I’m trying!!

I think it takes me about a full hour to wind down! As opposed to the BF who can crash in an instant!

I’ve never done foam rolling before – what prompted you to start? I’m curious to learn more! 🙂

I have just heard about it all over the blogging world! I had a back injury flare up recently so I’m doing everything I can to get it back to normal! Maybe I should do a little post explaining this….thanks for the idea! 🙂
