I’m happy to say I’ve been logging some pretty consistent miles on my Nike+ and DailyMile this past week! I’m still having some back issues so I will be doing some stretching and strength moves for my back that the coming week. I MUST be more consistent with my strength training because when I’m not, I seem to get injured more easily.
I have been walking around the path near our apartment and I’m pleased to share that I haven’t been attacked by a bird! Although I did have a nightmare about it the other night. I even got weirded out a couple of times when I was running with Becky and we heard birds squawking.
Got to run this with Becky! |
I know what that bird’s squawk sounds like and it haunts me. Seriously I think I have been traumatized for life! Yep, it’s that serious.
Aside from overly dramatic bird rants, I have a colorful and MARVELOUS post to share with you!
As I talked about in Friday’s post, I ran The Color Run in Des Moines Saturday with Calee, Alex, Mollie and her daughter.
We walked most of it, but it kinda really made me want to get back into running!
There are a couple of things you need to know about these colored runs. I wrote a short list of tips last year on my Color Run Rant post since I didn’t have the best experience (mostly because the people I was supposed to go with lined up without me), but I have a bit more to add.
The first thing is that this is NOT a race. It is NOT timed, so you really should not expect to PR or for anyone to move aside when you are trying to run. That’s just the way it is. You know it’s someone’s first time when they yell out in frustration “walkers to the right!!”
They let the “runners” out in waves. Sometimes this means a long wait, so make sure you plan ahead for timing purposes. This is why you should definitely have friends with you!!
To get the most color when you run through the streams of powdered corn color, run on the outsides where the people spewing the color stand. And if you don’t get enough of a particular color, it’s totally cool to walk up to one of them and let them know to douse you.
Everyone gets a color packet themselves and this is used at the very end in the color party (or whatever they call it). THIS is where the real color happens. You basically have to participate in this part of it to look like the people do on the website. I’ll admit it was pretty darn fun getting color all over my friends while dancing to super cheesy yet awesome music.
The music. Have you ever done a walk or run where there was music on a good deal of the course? It makes it so friggin’ fun I wanted to skip the whole way!
Overall I had a MUCH better experience this time around. It seriously makes it better to go with friends! Especially such lovely ladies as I had the pleasure of going with!
After the color party! |
Thanks so much to Alex for letting me crash at her place, to Calee for driving us from Ames and to Mollie for the group pictures!
I actually have the opportunity to give two free entries into a Color Me Rad fun run! One for you and one for a friend (since we decided going with friends is MUCH better)!
This is a different company from the runs I’ve done, but same basic principal. I did see, however that there are FIVE colors to run through instead of four!
I will be running the Color Me Rad 5K in Des Moines in October (a great opportunity for those in the area who missed The Color Run). I’m excited to try out Color Me Rad 5K to compare the two fun runs!
Check out the different locations here.
Also check them out on Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and YouTube!
PS Kids 7 and under run for free!!
Good luck, friends!
Congrats to my friend Calee! She finally won after entering pretty much all of my giveaways! 🙂
And speaking of giveaways…head over to see who won the Locklaces giveaway!
Hope you guys have a great Monday! I get to babysit my sweet sweet nephew before headed back to the twin cities!
Linking up to the lovely diva:
Disclosure: I was given a free race entry to run this giveaway for Color Me Rad. I paid in full for The Color Run I ran in this post as well as last year. All opinions are my own as usual!

woo. I don’t know who I’d give the 2nd one to, but it’d be fun! I had so much fun this weekend. I agree — way more fun to walk/talk/jog it than to try to run it.

Yes fun to walk/talk/jog with friends! 🙂

I would take my friend at work. She just started running about a month ago and this would be a fun way to support her. 🙂

I would love to run this with my awesome friends, we are all trying to get back to healthier more active lifestyles, especially since losing our bodies to babies. Lol. Exercise is easier to stick with when its fun and with friends!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Yes!! I think that’s the point of these “fun runs” is to remind people that being active is indeed FUN! Good luck! 🙂
