As I mentioned in Monday’s post, I’m in Kansas City for the week!
Dave (the BF) has been moved here for work (to another hotel, sigh). The city is a big improvement from North Platte, Nebraska where he was working, but he was there for 10 months, so the hotel started to spoil him. At the time he left, he had been staying in a suite with a separate room for the bedroom and a whirlpool tub. This room is decent, but it’s no suite.
Poor Dave is kind of starting over here on this territory of the railroad, but I have no doubt he will be back on top in no time. I’m just happy I can hang out here for a week to try to make his evenings a little less lonely since he doesn’t really know anyone here. Again, he will be fine in no time since he has that knack for making friends that I so wish I had.
Okay, onto the food!
It’s Wednesday and I’ve decided to do a WIAW today. What. I. Ate. Wednesday. which is basically what I’ve been eating lately or sometimes I get ambitious and record what I eat for an entire day. WIAW is a round-up for meals, if you will. For more info on my WIAW, click here.
I link my WIAW posts up to the Lovely Jenn at Peas and Crayons:
- {Breakfast: munched on all morning…9am to noon} Dave grabs me an extra bowl of cereal when he gets breakfast in the morning (the hotel does NOT have free breakfast…one of those fancy hotels where you pay for EVERYTHING). I add some sunflower nuts for extra satiety to the delightful Honeynut Cheerios bowl.
- {Lunch: 2pm} I ordered food from the hotel restaurant to-go for lunch. (I saved a $3 delivery fee plus 18 percent gratuity for delivery by just walking downstairs to pick it up myself.) I chose the House Roasted Turkey Club with applewood smoked bacon, heirloom tomatoes, alfalfa sprouts and delicious avocado spread on amazing wheat ciabatta bread. I got a side salad as well with a cup of the smoked chicken tortilla soup. I only ended up eating half of the sandwich and the soup, which means I have lunch today. Gotta love restaurant portions! 😉
- {Diet Dew} Need I say more?
- {Dessert} I got some peanut M&Ms from the vending machine. I was super into some projects…like researching schools in Missouri in case things happen and I need to move here, so I was a bit of a hermit yesterday. Nothing is certain yet, but I like to be prepared.
- {Dinner: 8pm} Noodles and Company take-out with Dave. (Seriously, I was in the hotel all day except for picking up the food.) I got the Spaghetti and Meatballs with broccoli added in (yes, broccoli added).
Not pictured: {Snack} after a quick 20 minute elliptical session around 5pm of pretzels and peanutbutter.
Remind me I need to tell you about my new gear!
Evaluation of Eats:
I find it very interesting that I can eat 3 larger meals as opposed to my 4 or 5 small meals throughout the day. I mean it makes sense, but I don’t usually eat like this. I am also trying to make sure I get my exercise in each day since it’s challenging to get fresh and healthy food living in a hotel. Speaking of which, Dave agreed to do a WIAW for me sometime on how he eats in hotels. I’m excited to have him take over the blog for a day!
Well, I won’t be couped up all day again. Lots of things to see in KC!
Well, I at least need to get to Target for a couple of items I forgot at home and some of my trusty allergy medicine.
Happy Wednesday all!
How well do you eat while on vacation?
When do you go for convenient food?

It’s so kind of you to stay with Dave for a week to make him feel more comfortable. Being away from home alone can be hard. I hope you’ll be able to explore the city a bit more during the next days.
How I do on vacation eating-wise depends on where I’m staying. We hardly ever stay at hotels but rather places where I can bring and prepare some of my own food. But I do also think being away from home is a nice occasion to eat out and try new foods :).

Oh I would LOVE to be staying in a place where I could actually make food! I am getting to try some different foods though so definitely not a terrible thing for now! 🙂

KC is so much fun! My friends that used to live there just moved away, sadly, or I’d have people to point Dave to for fun times. 🙂 I went to a Ke$ha concert in KC in 2011.

aw dang! We had friends that live close to here too, but they are selling their house and moving lol

Your lunch looked super delicious! I can’t wait to hear what you find while exploring the city. While hotels can be lonely, new places can be exciting!

Well I drove around a bit but only ended up going to WalMart. Hopefully I get to try some of the famous BBQ this week!!

Lacking in friend-making skills? Please! You won me over! 😉
When I’m on vacation, I don’t throw all my food knowledge out the window, but I definitely get a lot more lax. Usually though, I can only eat so many rich meals before my body starts craving veggies. For that reason, I do try to always bring along some healthy snacks…or sometimes I’ll head to the grocery store once I get settled to pick up a few things to balance out all the dining out!
It would be so fun to see Dave host a WIAW! I’m always curious to see the difference in “man eats”! Lol
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
haha but you are so stinkin’ nice it was easy! 😉
I definitely feel you on the craving veggies after awhile. I think I order a fresh salad every single meal to balance any richness.

“In case things happen”???? 😉
I am actually pretty good at still eating well on vacation. Obviously, if there is something I can never eat again, I’ll go for it, no matter how decadent!
