Welp, the weekend sure did not go as I had planned, but I did have fun (and got to see my nephew!!).
“And THIS is a CARROT!” |
The intent was to do my long run Saturday morning with the running group I’m a part of (but haven’t really run with). I was pretty excited to use my new gear (post to come!) and set out all of my clothes to run and all that jazz.
The thing is…I had the busiest week and had put off doing a zillion things that I was planning on doing Friday. So of course Friday was equally busy.
I went to the extra Chemistry class basically just to check my test score since my normal class wouldn’t meet until the week after spring break. Well, my score did improve from last time, but the grading on those tests is a sham.
The TAs (teaching assistants) stay up late after the test to grade in order for them to be ready the next morning. The only issue with this is that it seems each TA grades differently! Every single test I’ve compared answers and scores to friends and each time I’ve found different ways of grading problems…or different number of points taken off for the exact same mistake. I ended up running all around arguing with different teachers with a result of 5 extra points (5 percentage points!). Worth it.
Then I had dinner on campus (Subway…duh!) while I worked on the Chemistry homework. I did NOT want to be working on it over break. The time flew by and I barely finished in time for my laptops batteries to wear out.
Then it was off to buy presents for my sister’s birthday and for my friend Rachael’s wedding shower.
Does it make me selfish that while I was looking for presents that I ended up buying stuff for myself?
I cannot help myself around kitchen supplies!
Love my BFF Giada! |
And by the time Dave showed up to my place….my jaw dropped. Yes, I was expecting him, however I could not BELIEVE it was already 8:30pm! One of those days.
Dave was a sweetheart and let me finish up my Fitness Friday post, which I was determined to finish because I told Miss Katie at Talk Less Say More I would link-up! I HATE letting people down!
Well, speaking of that…I ended up trying to figure out where the running group was meeting at midnight before the run. (Smart, Amanda.) After google-mapping for about 30 minutes (and stressing my already exhausted self out), I finally posted on the running Facebook page that I would not be making it.
Lack of sleep is NOT pretty on me. I ended up a crying mess because it was 12:30am and I needed to fold all of this laundry and the apartment was a mess and I still had to pack and prepare to be gone a full week…and my hysterics ended up waking Dave who had passed out about an hour previous.
I didn’t end up running with the group, nor on my own. I didn’t even do much more in the morning than have breakfast or pack up the presents. BUT Dave and I did snuggle and watch 30 Rock on Netflix.
We also got to spend a glorious afternoon with my family to celebrate my sister’s birthday.
That’s probably enough cuteness for one day right?
I also made some money babysitting Saturday evening then drove the hour back to my apartment to finish everything that needed to get done….staying up until 3am and missing an opportunity to run before heading back to my hometown for a wedding shower.
It’s funny because although things weren’t going as planned, I still had so much fun this weekend!
The wedding shower was a combined one (guys and gals) so it was different than I am used to, but it was great seeing our friends and participating in the games. We ended up learning A LOT about the couple. The first thing they did was play “The Almost Newlyweds” which was based off of an old television game show where the couple answers questions about each other beforehand and then each person has to guess what the others response would be to each question.
Then we played gift bingo and finally took a test to see how well we knew the couple…and I won! Good guessing was the reason since a lot of the questions were ones from before I knew them.
Also the hosts were awesome and kept the party super entertaining. Did I mention this took place on St. Patty’s day?
After the shower we got our things together and headed off to Kansas City! It was great hanging out with Dave in the car. We sang Josh Groban songs (err he did) and talked about life. I was too tired to run Sunday night, but I did manage to run today! More on that later.
Happy Spring break to whoever that applies to! 🙂
Have you ever been to a combined wedding shower?
Do your days (or weeks) ever go completely differently from how you planned?

Haha. I had one of those days today…and every single day last week. You make plans and God has a good laugh…is that how the saying goes?
Oh my word: your nephew! <3

Yes I think the saying goes something like that. I can’t help but plan, but I think the key is to be flexible, right?
I cannot get enough of that little man!

I always have the best intentions with my plans and very often they end up similar to what happened to you! I also share in the horrible feeling of being exhausted to hysterics! Sounds like you still had fun, and really that is the most important thing! ; )
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Yes, I am definitely a person that needs her sleep and rest!! I’m glad I got to hang out with family and friends because that made the planning-gone-wrong weekend not seem so bad! 🙂

Oh man, your nephew is getting so big!! Adorable!!
The combined thing sounds fun. I think that girls get so much attention, and it’s fun to include the guys, you know? Glad you had such a great weekend!!

That’s true, weddings to tend to be about the women when it’s really a COUPLE getting married!!

I haven’t been to a combined wedding shower, but I have been hearing inklings of people wanting to try combined BABY showers. When you think about you, you would hope that the husband and father-to-be would want to be involved, I guess.
I do love your perspective. Life NEVER really goes according to plan, and I can definitely empathize with the “crying at midnight over everything still to do.” I just had a similar moment about twenty minutes ago. 🙂
