It was a snow day yesterday so I stayed snuggled in for most of the day, wrapping presents and eating Christmas goodies, only emerging when Dave came to rescue me in his SUV for a Christmas party.
As I was going to bed I saw a tweet last night that the half marathon I’d been debating on signing up for was open at midnight. Serious debating has been going on in my brain, like one day I’d be sure I should sign up and the next I totally decided not to….but I decided last night that if it was still open when I woke up that I’d just go for it.
This is not the first time I’ve signed up for a half marathon, but it is the first time I’ve actually gotten into the Lincoln National Guard Half Marathon, despite trying three years in a row! Last year I went to sign up the day Dave (the BF)’s sister signed up and I was already too late, but she got in. It fills up fast!!
This will also, God willing, be the first time I actually RUN a half-marathon.
Things tend to happen that get in the way. Thrice I’ve signed up for half marathons actually. The first time I hurt my back. The second time I got sick from my cutie-pie twins I watch. The third time I don’t even remember why I couldn’t do it…do you? Dave thinks it could have been a funeral? Or nasty weather? I think I was so depressed about the third time I didn’t even blog about it.
I was devastated all three times since I was training hard and I had gotten myself so excited. I think it even hurt a little more because I had to tell people that were cheering for me that I had failed them. That’s the way I saw it at least.
So I ask, am I crazy to sign up for another one?
With my past failures?
With my current doubts?
And the mountains of blowing snow covering our city currently?
And not having run since September because I hurt my knee??
Am I crazy to tell people about signing up for it?
What if something happens AGAIN?!
Will you all just roll your eyes at me now and say “I’ve heard this one before. Let me know if you actually do it, lady.”
I suppose I can’t say I will for sure run it. I’m not one of those crazy runners who will run with bronchitis. Yes, I know people like that. But I really am hoping this time it will work out!
Here are some things I’m going to do to try my darnedest to run this half marathon:
- Write up a training plan in Google Docs. This is probably my favorite part because I am a nerd and like planning things.
- Keep posting workouts on DailyMile. Please friend me on there so that we can encourage each other!
- Update you blog readers on my progress on a weekly (?) basis.
- Sign up for the half marathon training class at school.
- Find a running group or running buddy in the city I’m moving to (I found a roomie! More on that later!).
- Have everything ready the day before so there is no excuse in the morning.
- Work on doing my runs in the morning so I get used to getting up early to move my body. And scheduling those runs in my phone!
- Try not to be too hard on myself.
Training starts in January! Or after the crazy Christmas rushedness ends. 🙂
I’m guessing my training will be starting on the treadmill too. 😉
