No friends, I’m not preggers. Someday! But for now I am in a near-constant battle with Chemistry and I’m pretty sure it is better done sans kiddos. I get my baby fix at my nannying job and occasional babysitting. And soon I will get it through my little nephew!
My sister Courtney is having a baby in December.

I will have to admit, I was a little taken aback when I first found out she was pregnant. After all, I am the oldest…for some reason I’ve always had it in my mind that I would get married and have kids and the rest of the siblings would follow. Obviously, life isn’t that orderly.
We arranged a little family baby shower on Saturday, and it was really great seeing everyone. Our extended family doesn’t usually get together outside of the major holidays (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas).

It was super laid back…no crazy shower games and boys were allowed (thus my dad and Dave were there).
Dad and Courtney |
Oh except for a last minute game of try-to-tie-your-shoe-with-a-balloon-in-your-shirt.
Not that I didn’t know this already…but oh my goodness baby clothes are SO CUTE!
Kids in dress-up clothes…I die!! |
Seeing all of the little outfits, especially the little Huskers one that Grandma Rose bought, made it seem more real that we would actually be welcoming a little bundle of joy into this world very soon.
And speaking of Huskers…the game was on during the shower, so the dudes had to turn it on in the background. Duh.
Dave (the BF) being awesome |
Since it’s pretty much assumed I will make dessert for family gatherings, I whipped up some cupcakes from a box. And since I can never leave well enough alone, I used unsweetened applesauce instead of oil. Then I separated the dough into three sections, dyed 1 section green, 1 blue and left the other alone. I layered the colors in the cupcake holders for a rainbow-ish effect.
Then I got up early Saturday (okay it was probably 9am…but I didn’t get to sleep until 3am) to pipe some fancy frosting on top, add some sprinkles and a few letters spelling out “Baby Boy” from a “Happy Birthday” letter pack.
Wonder what I will use the rest for since I used up the “B” from Birthday…?
Lauren and Courtney |
I’d also like to give a shout-out to Courtney’s best friend Lauren who did some awesome decorating for the party.
After plenty of goofing around, I rushed home to work on my nutrition paper, the one I made the Spicy Chicken Mexican Tacos for.
Although I did get some solid work in, the whole time I was trying to think of what I was going to be for the Halloween party that evening. Can you guess what I chose? It has to do with a book series I may have read twice over the summer…
If you get it right, I will internet high-five you. 😉
Happy Tuesday all!
How was your weekend? (Yes, I’m aware it’s Tuesday, but my days seem to blend together!)
