Delicious title right? Well it was very fitting for the actual hike I took with Dave (the BF) at his family farm over the weekend.
You see I have been training for this half-marathon, that I have yet to sign up for (commitment issues?). The training schedule I have is realistic, however when life happens and I have to go to the farm for the weekend…I don’t really have a great place to run 6 miles.
Seriously there is no gym, no sidewalks and running on the country roads isn’t the safest thing ever. I was planning on running on the road next to the farm house but running through sandy farm paths won over the fear of getting hit by a farmer’s truck.
Sunday afternoon I wanted to get some miles in so Dave and I went hiking around the farm. We went off the beaten path to an area that has actually been rented out for cattle-grazing in the past. Thus, the cow pies.
This was a pretty serious hike. Lots of hills and weird terrain. I even (reluctantly) crossed a barbed wire fence by letting Dave step on one part and hold it open for me. He then hopped over effortlessly because apparently that is something you learn how to do when your relatives own farms.
It’s been pretty dry in Nebraska so the irrigation system is essential. Dave’s family is very fortunate to have a decent crop this year!
I am so thankful we got to go out together. The farmland is so beautiful and so peaceful.
After our lovely hike, I put my ipod in and ran 2 miles like a rockstar before I ran out of time. At one point I was actually chased by a gator. A motorized one. 😉
Although I adore being at the farm and getting outdoors, my allergies about killed me the next two days. Good ol’ midwest allergens in the air. Apparently this has been one of the worst summers ever because of how dry it has been. I was working my coffee job on Tuesday and blowing my nose telling everyone “it’s okay, it’s just allergies” as I handed them their latte.
Speaking of that job…it is quite the workout. I woke up this morning and my whole body was sore. I mean I understand the legs being sore since I covered 5 miles yesterday, but lifting a 70 pound espresso machine and 100 pound cart plus coolers, etc in and out of a van can really wear a gal down!
I am thankful to be making money though, and to have a job where I get paid to workout and make people happy with coffee.
Oh hey, you probably want to know who won the awesome Gymboss giveaway right??
I used a random number generator to pick a winner:
