Gymboss Interval Timer Review and Giveaway

Hello Friends!

It’s Thursday already.  How the heck did that happen??  

Now that I am able to sit upright and type (my inner girl parts hated me this morning and forced me into a fetal position for a couple of hours before the Midol kicked in) I have a little review AND giveaway for you that I’ve been teasing you with on Facebook, Twitter, and even yesterday’s WIAW post. 

It’s a Gymboss Interval Trainer.  I use this nifty gadget for my home workouts and interval running.  In fact, I about died last week when I did an outdoor interval run with it.

These are also great for HIIT workouts or High Intensity Interval Training.

 

Here’s how it works.
There are two separate timers on the Gymboss.  Each one can be set to a different time period ranging from 2 seconds to 99 minutes.  Each will either beep or vibrate to signal moving to your other phase of the workout.  You set it for the number of times you want it to repeat these intervals, hit start and get moving!


I use three different methods with my Gymboss Interval Timer.

Weight training or holding poses: The first timer is set for your lifting time and the second is a rest period.  You can also do this for planks or even yoga poses (the second timer would be for rest or changing to the next pose).

 

HIIT #1: (can be done on any kind of cardio equipment such as bike, treadmill, etc or even running outside): The first timer is for a steady, moderate pace and the second timer is for an all-out-crazy blast of energy.  I set my top to 2 or 3 minutes and the bottom for any time under a minute.  My running intervals last week had 2 on the top and 30 seconds on the bottom.  I did this for two miles and was a sweaty mess at the end. 

HIIT workouts are great in training for running.  It allows your body to get used to running as fast as you can for short spurts, instead of running hard and wearing yourself out before you’ve gotten even a mile in.  Your body can recover in the 2 or 3 minutes of moderate running and will be able to kick it into high gear for a short period of time.  These workouts are hard on your muscles though, so only do one or two rounds a week.  The cool thing about the Gymboss timer is that it is small and I can clip it to my shirt or shorts and run out the door. (more on my training here)

 

HIIT #2 (done with other intense exercises such as burpees, jumping jacks, push-ups, crunches, etc.): I use the top one for doing as many of a given exercise as possible as quickly as possible and the second for a rest period.  Start out with the top one at 1 minute and the bottom at 30 seconds.  It is more intense than you think so start small and increase your top number over time.
