Well I am pooped. And famished. (And overly-dramatic.)
Today I had the pleasure of exploring the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. Apparently Trip Advisor rated it the best zoo in the US.
No big deal. 😉
I’m so excited!! |
I met my good friend Emily who had her little babe Rhea and the little one she babysits, Mia.
Can you spot the Mia hand? This is what I get when I try to hold a tot and take a picture. |
It’s always fun catching up with Emily. Both of our guys work for the same railroad so we get to chat about slash complain about their jobs. 😉
(We really are thankful our men have good and dependable jobs. The hours are just a bit of a pain sometimes.)
We (okay mostly Emily) pulled the little 15 month olds around for a couple of hours in a wagon.
Mia on the left saying “hi” |
Pulling babies around in a wagon is quite a workout. Especially with all of the massive hills found throughout the zoo!
This was our black bear friend. Black bear is best. (Five points if you get the reference.) |
Emily and the kiddos had to head out after a couple of hours, which was perfect because Mama Sue and Sister Rachel were joining me!
After my lunch of over-priced chicken tenders. 😉
If you haven’t had the pleasure of going to Henry Doorly Zoo, you should.
If you don’t plan on taking a trip to Nebraska anytime soon…here are some lots of pictures for ya. And quite a few home videos.
First up, the legendary aquarium:
Then the butterfly pavillion:
These lovelies are marked so they look like eyes to scare off predators. They also apparently like fruit. |
Then we needed a little break so hopped on the new Skyfari.
What is a Skyfari?
Cheetahs. We learned that they have an enlarged heart and liver which somehow gives them greater lung capacity. |
It is basically a ski lift that goes over a large part of the zoo.
Yes, you get to ride over the animals.
Baby giraffe! |
I have to admit that I was a little scared up there.
It’s weird because I LOVE rollercoasters. But we weren’t really strapped in…I felt like I could slide right out.
Or if we got too excited about seeing a huge rhino right below us we would rock right out of the ride.
Did you know that Rhinos are 2500-5000 pounds??
Had to get some video. This was back on the ground by the way…so close to this guy!
Then to check out the seals. They were waving for the camera. 🙂
And to check out the massive fish. Can you see how small the ducks look in comparison?
One of my favorite parts of the day was checking out the birds.
I am not great with bird species names…but we hung out with this little guy for awhile.
The zoo gal said he usually doesn’t talk around other people, but he whispers. Did you know birds can whisper?
The shy bird turned his head all the way around and said, “Hi” to me. I guess he liked me! 🙂
The last stop was the jungle.
Where my camera proceeded to die after a few photos.
But not before sister Rachel took an awesomely tired looking picture of me.
Yep. The zoo wore me out.
Hope you enjoyed the tour friends! The photos/video here barely scratched the surface of the Henry Doorly Zoo so if you ever get a chance…check it out!
When was the last time you took a trip to the zoo?
What are your plans for the weekend?
