Nut Butter Fun

November 15, 2011 by Amanda R DeWitt

I love peanutbutter.

On everything.

Peanutbutter on apples, peanutbutter on toast, peanutbutter on waffles, peanutbutter cupcakes…the list goes on and on.

I was at Target the other day and saw a whole array of nutbutters and thought, well, it’s good to change things up so why not try one of em?  I checked the back label of each and came upon one with less sodium and more protein than my current peanutbutter…winner!

I present to you…
Peanut Butter with  Flaxseeds

 Nutrition Facts: (2TBS)

Calories: 200
Fat Cal: 140
Total Fat: 16g
Sat Fat: 3g
Cholesterol: 0mg
Sodium: 55mg

Fiber: 3g
Sugars: 2g
Protein: 9g

Let’s Compare Nutrition with my usual Peanut Butter (because it’s fun to compare):
Jif Creamy:

Calories: 190 (10 cals less than w flaxseeds)
Fat Cal: 130 (10 cals less)
Total Fat: 16g
Sat Fat: 3g
Cholesterol: 0mg
Sodium: 150 mg (95 mg more)
Fiber: 2g (1g less)
Sugars: 3g (1 more)
Protein: 7g (2g less)

What I Like About It:

  • More protein
  • Less sodium
  • Less sugar
  • More fiber
  • Flaxseeds are super healthy according to Web MD
    • Omega-3 Fatty acids: “good” fats that help fight heart disease, cancer, stroke and diabetes (wowzers)
    • Lignans (a lot of them): great antioxidants
    • Good source of fiber

What Could Improve:

  • Weird texture…kind of soupy (I got used to it but it’s a little hard to work with and messy)
  • High in calories

Now my new favorite breakfast is topped with this delightful nutbutter.  I’m glad I tried this because now I will be more open to trying other nutbutters.  🙂

With mini choc chips (leftover from my Sugar and Spice and Everything Awesome Cookies)

Now if you will excuse me to eat this delish breakfast. 🙂

Have a great day!
