Apparently I like sharing news on the blog. Especially the teaser aspect of the title that involves the word “news.”
That way I know those who like to know stuff about me personally will read it. Ha.
I actually had a totally different post planned. One involving hiking in Colorado, but that will have to be pushed back again. Yeah, I’m a bit behind on updates around here. Speaking of which…
In case you missed it on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter…Dave (the handsome fella above and the one I talk about all the time) finally gave me a pretty, sparkly ring to eventually wear on my left hand (after someone can pry it off of my necklace to resize it. hey, I got sized for a ring like 4 years ago so Dave made sure it was a little bigger than necessary.).
Aka we are officially engaged!
You guys, be proud that I waited almost three weeks to share this news until we told family (waiting a bit after Dave’s grandma’s passing) and close friends. It was kind of tough, not gonna lie!
Now I have some thoughts to share.
Five Thoughts on Getting a Ring
1. After 7 years, I have had thoughts of “what’s the point of getting married..we are obviously together.” Aside from the freak outs when I saw friends way younger and who had been dating for a second get engaged, I almost wanted to be that couple that defied what society thinks is the right thing to do. But alas it will be nice to feel officially part of each others’ families. I know, SO romantic.
2. It was pretty fun to make it Facebook official…it felt like getting on Facebook the day of your birthday…so many comments and likes and from people who I haven’t talked to in…years?
3. Grandma R. said “wahoo!” when I told her Dave and I got engaged. Grandma K. said “it’s about time!” (and nice things of course but it made me giggle.).
4. I feel weird about the word fiancé. I have no idea why. I also feel weird about the word boyfriend at this stage in my life…what does all of this mean? I just want to call him my Dave or my person or my BFF or Dave Cakes…is that too much to ask?
5. The ring. Oh man I really want to claim that I don’t care about possessions or fancy jewelry, but…it’s so sparkly. And unique. And simple. And pretty. And perfect.

Five Fun Thoughts About Dave Cakes
1. Opposites definitely attract. He’s the perfect funny laid back and charming compliment to my anxious and awkward self.
2. I love that he has finally accepted I will probably take a picture of every. single. thing. I eat. He’s even started helping me with photography. Love.
3. He turned me onto The Walking Dead and my life was forever changed.
4. I’m very happy we both appreciate semi-healthy cooking (and baking) and that he likes to play in the kitchen too.
5. It’s a good thing he’s a fan of cats. Especially cute, fluffy ones named Zoey.
Five Thoughts About Planning a Wedding
1. Overwhelmed. So much so.
2. Picking people to be in the wedding and to attend the wedding…can I just invite everyone?? I’m inevitably going to offend someone, right? I mean I can just feel it.
2. Can we just elope?
3. I’m hiring a planner. Kind of joking, but kind of serious. Dave’s cousin said they saved about as much money using their planner’s connections as they spent hiring her…so…
4. Thank God for Pinterest. And for planning ahead a bit…although looking at my Someday board I’m a little confused. And overwhelmed again.

5. If anyone has websites or blogs I need to start following with advice on this wedding stuff, please send them my way! Okay, wedding talk over. This kind of talk will probably continue on my new blog (less than a month until launch date!) and I will try to keep the planning stuff to a minimum over here. (Try being the operative word.) Not that I won’t mention it…I just don’t want this to turn into a wedding planning blog. Cuz it’s about food and fitness and semi-healthy life! Have a great weekend, friends!
Tell me…Any advice here is welcome! Or just tell me to stop stressing out for a minute. 😉 PS Isn’t it kind of cool that we’re getting married in a time when anyone can get married to anyone?
