Can you believe it’s September? Where the heck did summer go? Sure, it’s still technically here, but the kids are back to school now, so it feels like fall. Plus the temps have definitely been dropping here in Minnesota. I seriously can’t wait for the changing leaves…I pretty much walked outside and drove my car with little hearts in my eyeballs like that emoji (anyone?) last year for a couple of weeks. And pumpkin is coming back. I mean, it just is. You can’t get away from it. I know we will all be sick of it come January, but for now…PUMPKIN SPICE EVERYTHING!!
Okay this is beside the point of this post, so I will get into the real discussion: the Did You Know link-up.
This link-up is for any nutrition, health or fitness post that teaches something.
It can be tips and tricks, it can be something new you learned, it can even be your current half-marathon training plan.
If you are a healthy living or fitness blogger, you probably already have a dozen posts you could link-up—please do so! I look forward to these posts each month because I always learn so much from you guys.
A couple of cool things about the Did You Know link-up:
- It’s hosted on 3 different blogs. Yay for more exposure!
- You get to learn new things from bloggers. Even if you don’t have a blog you can benefit from this link-up!
- It’s open for two weeks. If you miss it on the first Friday of the month, no sweat..you have 13 more days!
- We pin each post that is linked up to our handy-dandy Did You Know Pinterest board. Yay again for more exposure because as we all know…Pinterest drives a. lot. of blog traffic!

I have also started to high-light my favorite posts that bloggers link-up from the previous months. Check to see if yours is featured below!
Some Favorites from Previous Did You Know Link-Ups:
Rolled Oats vs Breadcrumbs via Diary of an Ex Sloth This made me think of a sort of experiment we did in my cooking class in Lincoln. We made meatloaf with a bunch of different grains and it turns out the bread crumbs absorbed (held in) more of the fat from the meat than any other grain. So it depends on what you’re going for with you meal, but oats are definitely a good substitute for breadcrumbs.
The Power of Words to Affect Our Health via Passion for Life, Love and Health
I loved this post because it’s something I can really relate to. I’ve definitely gone through depressions where I would write posts complaining about things and just being downright sad all over the blog. Now that I’ve crawled out of that hole a bit, the blog is a more happy and fun place (although if you truly read my posts, you will see that my life isn’t totally perfect..for example the time I threw away the new stove top grill we bought in a fit of anger..did you catch that?)
I will be linking up:
My post about getting back into a fitness routine!
I will admit I am a bit nervous about the upcoming cold months because last winter was my first winter here in Minnesota…and it just so happened to be the worst winter in 30 years. So..yeah I pretty much just stayed in my apartment and started going a little crazy because I still hadn’t really made any friends up here yet. I’m trying to be positive though and making a resolution to workout each week will surely help beat the post-summer grumpies!

It really is! We will have to hang out soon..where did you move in Mn??
That post is actually from another blogger–Diary of an Ex Sloth. Similar to this blog name haha but not quite. It is a great read! 🙂

Did you know that I am experiencing some crazy writer’s block right now. I am trying to write a dang script for a video tomorrow and I am just epically failing over here. Perhaps I should just say that when I film! LOL!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Oh noes! Writer’s block is the. worst. but I’m sure you came up with something witty and ah-mazing!! 🙂

I love this link up! Though I love researching nutrition topics… So I’m in! And it’s great that it’s only once a month so bloggers don’t get overwhelmed with keeping up! I will be back!! 🙂
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I’m so happy to have you! And I’m relieved you like that it’s once a month because I was wondering if we should take it to once a week!

I’m new to this link-up but found you through our SPA page! Thanks for hosting! And good luck getting back into a fitness routine – remember, even on the coldest days, just a bit of exercise does wonders and is far better than nothing!
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Yay so glad to have you here! Can’t wait to check out your link! 🙂
And yes I am all about doing a little bit each day!

Cool link up. Yes to pumpkin spice EVERYTHING and fall foliage! I don’t do a lot of link ups because I feel like people don’t always reciprocate BUT I have also met some great bloggers that way. Maybe in the fall I will start linking up more.
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
I agree. I go back and forth on the benefits of link-ups but usually I see some traffic overall AND like you said, end up finding good blogs so I think that’s a win! 🙂

Oh wow, thank you so so much for highlighting my post! I’m really glad you could relate to it. Life is always a bit more comforting when we know people can relate to us on some level, you know?
As for your question about what makes a link-up a good one, I have a couple thoughts. As for the link-up itself, I love link-ups that have an interesting topic or theme. For me personally, that tends to be more informative or inspirational themes (which means I absolutely LOVE this link-up!! But I think I’ve mentioned that before, lol). For other people, that may mean more like lifestyle-type themes, where people share about their experiences, like a workout recap link-up or a weigh-in link-up. So that’s kind of a wishy-washy answer, I know…basically, a link-up is a good one if enough people find the topic/theme to be interesting to them.
My other thought on link-ups is more about the participants. I know it’s sort of an unwritten rule (and even sometimes written) that if you leave a link, you should visit other links in the link-up. I would guess that the number of people who follow this rule are in the minority. At least, it’s been that way in most of the link-ups I’ve participated in. I know I was guilty of linking-and-running when I first started, but that was honestly because I had no clue (and for some reason it didn’t occur to me to actually think about the purpose of a link-up). Now, if I don’t have the time to visit others’ links, I won’t leave my own link. I doubt there’s any way to actually improve upon this area of link-ups, but I think in general link-ups who have more people visiting the links are “better” link-ups. OH I KNOW! If your theme is on the more interesting side of things, I’m willing to bet people will visit more links. So that takes us back to my first thought. 🙂
Amanda @ Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
Man I totally used to link and run and still do on occasion…with the thought that I will go back (I leave the browser window open to remind myself but honestly sometimes I forget). Mostly though, if you leave a link, visit a link! If you leave 3 links..visit 3. Right? I think reading other blogs is a big part of blogging. Plus you can leave a comment and encourage that writer which sometimes comes back to you in a good way! 🙂 We definitely want the linking up to be worthwhile, so we list visiting other blogs in the rules..just in case there are newbies who don’t know any better!
So so happy you like this link-up! I definitely enjoy reading your posts about mental health because you are so good at explaining the things so many of us go through! Keep on keeping on lady! <3
