I think I say this every time I post a SHN Favorites post…but it’s been awhile since I have posted one of these! I was going to put this baby up probably a couple of months ago but then I decided I REALLY needed to study.
Life happens, right?
The moral of the story is…some of these links are pretty old. But you should still read them if you haven’t already. π
Another note…I’m going to leave all of the explanations in because it’s interesting (to me at least) to see where I was at the time I saved all of these links. Since then I have gotten back into my blogging groove and feel MUCH more comfortable posting my opinion about things (such as How Sore is Too Sore Part Deux).
————————–
I just realized that most of my favorite posts lately have been ones that are bold. These writers all discuss topics that may be controversial, but they do it right. What I mean is that while each writer has his or her opinion, it is shared in a respectful manner where all of the facts and opinions are clear. I keep coming up with topics for posts like these, but I push them off in favor of getting a recipe post up.
Like I shared in the post (with the comical title) Tell Me…How Can I Get Some Negative Comments, I want more discussion on the blog..so I probably need to get back to writing posts like these and sharing my opinions more often!
1. Thinking Out Loud: Balance via Meghan at Clean Eats Fast Feets
This post is allll about the Biggest Loser debacle. While it makes me cringe when people say, “Don’t judge” because we ALL judge EVERYTHING. I’d prefer something along the lines of “don’t make assumptions” or “don’t be mean” because we judge everything from whether or not we should buy this tube of toothpaste to whether or not we should see this or that movie to whether or not we should take candy from that weird man in the van. We all have our own personal theories on what is right and wrong from the big things to the little things, so our judgement is always there whether we say it out loud or not. Hmm maybe I DO need to write a post on this!
2. Fighting with Your Partner: Why It’s Good via Colleen at the Lunchbox Diaries
I totally agree “fighting” is good, although I could work on my fighting techniques. My left cross is a little wimpy. π
3. Help! I’m Married to a Blogger! via Mr Bean at The Lean Green Bean
This one was just funny and so relateable. I tried to get Mr. Dave to write a post like this but he thought it would hurt my feelings or cause a fight. (See the last post, Mr. Dave. Fighting is good.)
4. You’re a Stay at Home Mom, What Do You Do All Day? via The Matt Walsh Blog
You would think people would know not to ask certain questions, but it seems that certain people still need to be educated. On the flipside I get slightly to SUPER irritated when people with kids ask me what I do with “all of my time” because obviously since I don’t have kids, the laundry does itself, money appears out of thin air and food and blog posts just make/write themselves. Honestly.
Another one on the line of this rant…”what did you do with your day off?” <-my boss every single time I don’t work at the cafe. Somehow it doesn’t stick that I also write articles, blog, and do all of the apartment things (per an agreement with Mr Dave). Since I don’t have kids, I’m pretty sure she imagines me with my butt on the couch painting my nails and gabbing on the phone all day. False. Like I write in my
5. The 6 Most Shockingly Irresponsible Fitspiration Photos via Reembody
I absolutely love this blog post. The writing is great (although there is strong language). The message is something I’ve wanted to articulate myself but haven’t been bold enough to do it right like this!
Above is an example of one of the images (with my words on the right of course because I didn’t want someone repinning the original one for motivation!). This REALLY makes me want to write a whole post on fitspo or fitness inspirational images that usually showcase completely unrealistic bodies with motivational quotes that are sometimes laughable.
6. Fat vs Fit: The Truth About Fitspo via Carla Birnberg
[This last one was a find yesterday via Twitter but it really falls into the opinionated posts theme.]
7. Bloggers Have Bad Days Too via Fitness and Feta
I think I’m pretty good at sharing obstacles and things that get me down on the blog, but something I do want to do soon is share some failed recipes and failed photography…because it happens often believe-it-or-not! π
8. Bolder Blogging: Why I Will Never Have a Perfect Blog via Lindsay Cotter at Cotter Crunch
Trying to write the perfect blog is so frustrating, not to mention trying to be the perfect blogger friend who reads all of her friends’ posts and shares them on social media…it’s exhausting. I still find myself doing this (sometimes on a weekly basis) and when I do, I just take a step back from the blog and go for a run! PS Lindsay has nothing to worry about with the perfect blog..she is the nicest blogger and I’m pretty sure whatever she does people love.
9. Blogging 101: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly? by Amanda at Diary of a Semi-Health Nut
This is my own post I’m throwing into the mix because it was bold. The point of it is that bloggers shouldn’t feel pressured to post about their entire life from wake ’till bed. It works for some bloggers to share all of the nitty-gritty, but not all bloggers should feel the need to share all of their ugly moments for the sake of being “real” or “honest.”
bonus. Blogging 101: Recipe Plugin + Recipe Organization
I’m also throwing this one in for the part at the end about including nutrition information in recipes. I really want to know what readers/bloggers think about including calorie counts, etc with their recipes especially when those numbers could be triggering to those with eating disorders.

Oh and if you came here to see if you won an awesome Magic Bullet or Fairlife coupons…they are now displayed on the widget in the giveaway post. π Thank you all so much for your participation AND I could tell that many of you actually read the review (as opposed to skimming down to see how to enter). I really enjoyed reading what you liked most about Fairlife as a brand and as a milk product!
Tell me….
What are you up to this weekend? I am running the Run or Dye 5K in St Paul (check out that post for a discount code!) AND attending my first ever Twins game.

Loved the fitspo link and strongly agree with a lot of her points. Girls do get un-realistic images from these athletes that follow a strict eating/exercise regime and are photographed when they are water depleted, sprayed tanned to the max etc. and then lots of the time you see these girls with follow up pictures on how the ballooned after competition prep when they tried to go back to normal eating. It sucks these instagram “stars” have so much influence on us.
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
I realized it’s also dudes that get the unrealistic idea of how pumped up and buff they can look! I really try to be careful who I follow on IG because a lot of the images like that are just a MOMENT in time where that person looks amazing…not a consistent look.

Looks like some great links I’ll have to check out!! Thanks for sharing!

I loved that Lean Green Bean post – so funny!
My bolder blogging post is probably the “Does this make me look fat?” post… http://www.talkless-saymore.com/2014/03/22/does-this-dress-make-me-look-fat/
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Loved that post (well, not the reason behind it…you get what I mean right?)! You must be a trusted commenter because your comment didn’t get sent to moderation with the link lol! Good work. π
lindsay cotter
i loved all these.. and i want to share them all. haha, if i have time. You are the NICEST!! thank you
Ellie@fitforthesoul
Ohhhh thank you for this amazing links! They all sound really cool, and that one about being married to a blogger sounds too funny. Also, I can’t believe people ask me if I get bored being a SAHM right now. Errrmmm people, there is no time to get bored, haha! I’ll def. come back to these later when I have time.
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Seriously I don’t get why people ask that question. It wasn’t that long ago when that’s what women did….and they were never asked if they were bored! There is PLENTY to do!! You also wouldn’t ask your nanny if she was bored all day…people are silly. π
Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean
great roundup! thanks for the love!
Meghan McCarthy
Thanks for sharing my post. I’m glad it got your gears turning.
I’m not sure if you ever went back and read my response to your comment but my use of the Don’t Judge phrase was very deliberate, although I do like your thoughts on it.
I hope you have a great weekend. You better go out and show off that new sassy hair cut!
Amanda aka Semi-Health Nut
Oh yeah I read it. Saying “don’t judge” is still a pet peeve because everyone does it…it’s even judging to say someone is judging someone else. π π
Meghan McCarthy
Excellent. My plan worked then.
Athena @ Fitness & Feta
This is an awesome roundup of posts! Thank you so much for including me. π
