I have SO MUCH to do to prepare for #HLS13 (Healthy Living Summit 2013), plus I already posted my thoughts on 9-11, but when preparing for a blogging conference, one can’t help but think about their blog!!
Or am I the only one?
[If you are attending your first blogging conference and are a bit nervous, so was I (I almost stayed home!)! Check out some of these posts to get more excited:

I’m taking time away from cleaning the apartment and doing my freelancing posts to join in Jenn’s WIAW (What I Ate Wednesday) party today!

Dave and I finally made it to the St Paul farmer’s market on Sunday (the downtown one to be specific)! (I still have to check out the one in Minneapolis according to Lee.) I’m hoping to be able to take my blends with me to check it out too, but seriously the weekend is packed already.

I was completely overwhelmed! Beneath a giant rain shelter holds the most glorious array of produce, local organic meats, and flowers you’ve ever seen!
After shuffling through the crowds for awhile, we decided to just jump in and start buying things.
We came away with potatoes, a pack of veggies called a “salsa mix” including peppers, a tomato and an onion (perfect, right?), kettle corn, red pepper and feta hummus whole wheat bread, corn bread, a gorgeous bouquet of exotic looking flowers, some honey and “creamed” honey, which comes in a tub like margarine and spreads kind of like butter. All local.
He’s all ready to watch some Nebraska Husker’s football! |
So far I’ve tried out the honey in some bedtime tea and I used the bread and creamed honey for breakfast. Local honey is supposed to be great for those of us affected with allergies, so I’m crossing my fingers I feel the affects soon!
I tried some of the delightfully rich red pepper and feta hummus on top of the whole wheat bread toasted with scrambled eggs and bacon. It might have been my hunger after a 4.5 mile run..but that was one delicious lunch!!
We also tried out he kettle corn, but it was a little too salty. Such a shame!
I’ve used the peppers from the salsa mix in a couple of dishes so far.
The first was in some simple chicken and Spanish rice.
I also used them to top some California Kitchen pizza (that I bought frozen from Target).
The beautiful, exotic looking flowers only lasted a couple of days though. I am kind of embarrassed to say it might be my fault.
They looked a little sad yesterday, so I had heard you can put tylenol in the water to keep flowers alive longer. I had advil, so I tossed that in. They look positively awful today and I don’t even think my friends will be able to see them tomorrow. Sad. Day. (also Silly. Amanda.)
So… I hope the friends that are ambushing my apartment (meant in the most loving way possible) won’t mind a less-than-perfect apartment. I blame it on blogging excitement!!
Are you going to HLS?
Do you frequent your local farmer’s market?
How do you keep flowers alive in a vase??

Dude, I don’t mind if your place isn’t perfectly! We’re pretty much just sleeping there and you’re letting us stay free of charge AND I get to see you! 🙂

Sorry to hear the flowers didn’t last, they look beautiful! Both of the honey treats sound delicious and the peppers from the salsa mix all look yummy!

I need to remember to cut veggies up right away because I’m not sure if we will be able to use all of them now (due to laziness lol).

I love a good farmers market. The fruit and veg are always so much better than what you can find at the shops!
