A Hair Cut Will Change Your Life + Half Marathon Week 4 + Raffle Winner

September 2, 2013 by Amanda R DeWitt

Okay, the beginning of the title is exaggerated. (Also the entire thing is a little ridiculous, right? Way too long, but you have to admit, it is informative.)

But I did get a hair cut! It hasn’t been this short in…years? The new, sweet gal I went to estimated she chopped 7 inches off!

Fun fact:  Not only was this my first hair cut in Minnesota, this was my first hair cut this year.

Another fun fact: That is the most likes I’ve gotten on Instagram so far. I’m not sure if that makes me happy people like my hair, or sad people don’t love my phone food photography as much as me getting my hair cut.

I originally thought that I had gotten it cut in April back in Omaha, but looking back, I just had it colored since I didn’t want to change anything major before my very first half marathon ever. Meaning, I wanted to make sure all of the pieces stayed in a pony tail. No stray hairs flying around would hold me back from completing my 13.1 miles!

And speaking of half-marathons, I survived my fourth week of training for the Des Moines half-marathon!

Catch up on my half-marathon training:

Week 1
Week 2
Week 3

Even with the crazy hot temperatures, I completed my miles for the week. I almost died on Tuesday of heat exhaustion (yeah, my vision got blurry), but was smart and stayed inside the rest of the week.

Me taking a selfie mid-heat exhaustion. Obviously an appropriate thing to do at that time.

The treadmill isn’t too bad! It’s actually pretty nice just to change things up as I noticed last week!

The real success was that I got Dave to join me in the gym tonight. For about 10 minutes, before he left to watch The Walking Dead on Netflix. But still.

And since you probably have other things to do on your Monday off besides look at awkward selfies of me…I will go ahead and let you know the winner of the Justin’s Nut Butter raffle to benefit Girls on the Run, a wonderful organization building up young girls and teaching them how to run!

help me raise funds for girls on the run

I am so excited to announce the winner is Alex from Alex Tries it Out!! This lovely gal donated $10 to this great cause and won 2 cases of nut butter cups AND her favorite nut butter from Justin’s!!

Thank you so much to everyone who participated! I have another equally raffle coming up, so stay tuned!

I hope you are having a great and relaxing Labor Day!

Do you like running on the treadmill? How do you keep it interesting?

How often do you get your hair cut? I usually wait until I can’t stand it any longer…

Your hair suits you and makes you look very professional. 🙂 Treadmill – don’t mind at all. I usually do a workout of some kind to pass the time. I like watching Netflix on my phone at the gym – and sometimes zoning out to music is okay too.

      Thank you so much Andrea!

Yes, something to do on the treadmill is essential!

I wanted to stop by and say hi and thanks for checking out my blog earlier! (Oatmeal cream pies) I plan to train for a half marathon next year, and it will be a struggle for me. Running is not really my strong suit! I’ll run outside when it’s 110 or in the rain, but I really cannot stand the treadmill. I used to use one in high school, but I just can’t deal with it anymore!

I definitely have my good days and bad days running! And I think I dislike the treadmill when I have no other choice BUT to run inside. Out of curiosity, why are you doing a half-marathon if you don’t like running? Or did you just mean it will be challenging?
