Marvelous Week Off + Justin’s Winner

August 5, 2013 by Amanda R DeWitt

I’ve had a week off from house-wifish duties and I didn’t die of boredom OR flip out (too much) over having very little to do.  This is a Marvelous accomplishment if you ask me!

reading Tina Fey's book Bossypants in the car with feet on dashboard purple shoes

I had the opportunity to accompany Dave to Iowa for some trapshooting.

watching trapshooting at Iowa State Shoot

Then we headed to my hometown in Nebraska for a week where he was in a training class.

red barn out the window in Nebraska
Um no, he wasn’t training here but I like to take pictures of barns while we are driving. 🙂

We got to hang out with family and celebrate birthdays including my sister Rachel, who turned 13!

family love sister's birthday with baby nephew

We also got to celebrate Dave’s mom Betty’s birthday AND celebrated Dave’s a little early with some grilling on a toasty summer evening.  Check out Dave’s new apron.

After a whole week of relaxing, I am so very ready to get out and find another job.

So ready that I’ve decided to take a week off from my personal blog.  I know I will miss it and I will likely be reading other blogs, but I think this little break will be necessary for me to accomplish what I need to this week.

And yes, you did read that right, I said “another” job because I just got a freelance blogging job!  I did do a little work and submitted a test article about getting more sleep that was accepted and put up on the site!  I was so happy to finally have some income that I might have cried into my phone while reading the e-mail.  It’s only a few posts a week and it’s a writing job…so not a lot of money, but it’s something!

Since the writing job is online, I’m not meeting new people in my area.  I need to meet some people in my area…badly.  Even us introverts need human interaction every once in awhile, right?

So I will be hitting the streets this week!  Not just applying for jobs online, but following up with a couple of gym jobs I applied for and probably applying at coffee houses and a grocery store or two.

Besides getting myself in front of potential co-workers this week and getting into the groove of my freelance job….

  • My mom and sister Rachel are visiting me in the twin cities.  I don’t know what we have planned (museums and touristy things?), but I’m very excited!
  • I am working on my half-marathon training plan which will be something similar to Hal Higdon’s Novice 1 Half-Marathon training program.
  • I need to plan out my ACSM self-study program.  I did open the book this past week and start reading, but I need a structured plan and a date to take the test.  Although I don’t like them…I need deadlines to get things done!
  • My fundraising for Girls on the Run has gotten me a little nervous and I need to plan how I will accomplish my goal (so I don’t have to pay the money myself–eek!).  I will be attempting to work with some of my favorite companies to get some raffles going on the blog.  Apparently it takes a little more than a heartfelt post to get donations (which makes sense).

So basically a lot of planning going on with some sight-seeing.  And getting my face in front of people. 😉

I did pick a winner for one of the best giveaways I’ve ever done!
Justin's Nut Butter Cups Giveaway
Head over to see who won AND check out some of the funny comments.  Thanks for the entertainment, friends! 🙂

So many things I would do if I had the week off! I would probably for 1. sleep in. Then I would have some fun in the kitchen and get outside and be active! Otherwise I’d jet out of town to somewhere exotic as quick as I could 😉 Congrats on the job!

Congrats on the writing job, that’s awesome!!! 🙂
I completely understand what you mean about needing to get out & meet some people… I go to school at home online & it doesn’t allow for me to meet people or make any actual friends, so having a part-time job definitely helps some. Keeps me somewhat sane-er. lol Good luck!!

Maybe you can sell shirts to raise money? My friend Karla just did that and I think it helped her out pretty well. Let me know how I can help!

That’s a good idea!! I have some things in the works, but how does the t-shirt thing work? Was there a website she went to?

Good for you for recognizing that you need to take some time off! I’ve been blogging, but I am just now starting to read blogs again after what feels like MONTHS. (I know it hasn’t been that long, but my Feedly is scary.)

Congrats on the freelance job! I’m so excited for you…and I also feel your need to meet new people in a new place. 🙂

I went back to look at the winner and saw Sarah P., but I don’t think it’s me. Too bad, because I was pretty happy with my Justin is a vegetarian hottie comment.
