Not only did I survive this crazy busy weekend…I survived running 13.1 miles in the chilly 40 degree weather. Yes, it is May, but it felt more like a frigid February. That’s the midwest for ya though!
For example, last Sunday I ran 10 miles in 70 degree weather and got a little sunburned, but it snowed three days later on Wednesday.
The only thing predictable about Nebraska weather is its unpredictability.
{Friday}
Friday afternoon was MARVELOUS in that I had a massage scheduled at Massage Envy in my hometown (an hour away) to celebrate the end of an awful semester and to get some of the kinks out before my half marathon on Sunday. The last time I had a massage was two years ago after I hurt my back…and that was a very painful one. Needless to say, I felt like a million bucks after this one!!
Dave came into town (hometown) Friday and although we had planned a quiet date night of Pepperjax and Netflix, his sister decided she wanted to celebrate her graduation that night. So within two hours of receiving the call, we were sitting down to have some mongolian food. I was a little annoyed because I hadn’t seen Dave in two weeks and just wanted to hang with him, but I did my best to be supportive of his sister…especially since she is going through a break-up.
I had planned on going back home that evening so that I could pick up my race packet the following morning and then rush back to my hometown for a hair appointment, but of course plans changed again. I stayed at my dad’s place Friday night and I ended up spending a good deal jumping through hoops so that my roomie could pick up my packet for me. I mean you would think we were trying to commit a crime with the number of forms to be printed and signed!
The thing about staying at my dad’s house was that I was ill prepared for the wedding Dave and I were attending Saturday night. I had a dress, which was lucky, but it was very inappropriate for the drizzly, snowy, 30 degree weather.
{Saturday}
This meant that Saturday morning I had to rush off to Target to attempt to find a jacket or sweater of some sort, a strapless bra and some tights. I was so relieved to find a decent jacket (I mean Target has swimsuits out in January so I was a little worried).
Grabbed this from Healthy Diva’s post!! So appropriate for my overall style as of late! |
I then sped to my hair appointment (I haven’t had my hair done at all since NOVEMBER) arriving 30 minutes early because I had been warned that it would be super busy downtown because it was the first day of Farmer’s Market. Thankfully I only had to walk a couple of blocks without a coat (did I mention it was nicer on Friday and I didn’t bring a coat at all?).
The appointment was done with plenty of time to spare and I breathed a sigh of relief as I drove to my dad’s house to finish getting ready for the wedding.
This wedding was for the friend who may or may not have forgotten to call me when she was having her bachelorett party in KC, so I was a little nervous it was going to be weird.
Well, she didn’t talk to me once (I will give her the fact that it was her wedding and she was busy), but her hubby made a point to apologize to me (and Dave) and tell me that he valued me and my friendship. He may have only wanted to make sure that him and Dave remained friends, nonetheless I was very touched by the gesture.
Groom with baby Austyn |
We also got to hang out with old friends from back in my Chili’s days and play with cute baby Austyn. This little girl with baby blues is already 10 months old!!
Those eyes! |
Dave wasn’t feeling well all weekend (a cold or something that he has lovingly passed onto me…thanks Dave!), plus I had to be at the half marathon the next morning at 6am, so we left a little earlier than I would have liked (we didn’t even dance!!).
Dave was and is a trooper and drove us back to my dad’s so we could pick up my things, to his parent’s house so he could change and finally drove the hour home to my apartment where we crashed for a few hours of sleep before getting up for my very first half marathon.
{Sunday}
I do, however, want to say that I am so thankful for the people that God has surrounded me with. From my roomie, who guided me through all the details of the morning… to Dave, who even though he was sick, managed to take us to the race and take some awesome pictures…. to family who showed up at the race to watch…. to friends on social media congratulating me. Seriously, you have no idea what those kind words and gestures mean to me!
It was a whirlwind of a race and I still cannot believe I did as well as I did.
After the race and after I took a gloriously hot shower that warmed my bones and washed away the salty sweat from my skin, we met up with a goofy friend for lunch who dressed as Forest Gump to run the marathon that day. This was actually the third marathon he had run in the last month! Poor guy has to shave the beard off this week for his sister’s wedding though.
Dave and I headed back to our hometown after lunch and crashed for about an hour on his parents’ couch. Then it was time to say goodbye to Dave as he headed back to Minneapolis. Tears filled my eyes to see him leave yet again, but I plan on heading up to see him later this week. One of the benefits to being barely employed and having a month off of school!!
I had one final stop to make for the weekend…heading to the Daddio’s house to celebrate his birthday.
I also got to see sister Courtney and the cutest nephew in the whole world, Mr. Aaron Sanchez (not his real name….but bonus points if you recognize the name).
I mustered up every last bit of strength I had and drove the hour home to my apartment where I attempted to clean up the tornado that occurred at 5am when I was trying to get things together for the race. I then fell into a deep, Niquill induced sleep coma.
I have a list a mile long of things to do before I head out of town, but I am so so happy that there is nothing homework or study related on that list!! What a lovely Monday, indeed!!
Thanks to all of you for your support and encouragement and for sticking around with me through long, droning blog posts (like this) and numerous guest posts in a row when I feel like I can barely keep the blog afloat (okay Dave posted a better WIAW than I usually do! Be sure to check it out and leave him some love). I really hope to create some quality posts this next month with my time off and to actually have time to read my lovely blends’ posts too!
Much love to you all and have a great week!
