Yes, we are dragging this birthday thing out. Cuz you only turn 26 once!! Oh goodness that reminds me I have to change my age on my blog profile…
Birthday giveaway Monday (be sure to enter!!), birthday eats today..
You will also see a Fitness Friday post about my birthday run and this Sunday will be an epic gathering with my amazing family to eat pizza and cake where I will probably take too many pictures of my nephew and post them all over my MIMM post. 😉
I did pack some snacks such as Clif Kidz bars, fiber one bars and brought along some things that might have gone bad at my apartment such as cottage cheese, chobani, avocados, cheese sticks, celery and bananas.
Wednesday I fueled on the remains of the salmon cakes with lentil salad (I know this is the third time I’ve said this…but I will be posting the recipe for the salmon cakes and lentil salad soon!). I put all of this goodness on top of a bed of spinach and added some chopped celery and peppers. Gotta start out with some fresh goodness before a trip, right?
I also went out to buy some cereal, milk and almonds for some delicious breakfasts and snacks.
Thursday Dave and I went to Noodles and Company where I almost ordered the spiciest item off the menu, but the helpful gentleman ringing in our orders. I landed on Japanese Pan Noodles which were pretty tasty…until Dave pointed out that they looked like worms. Yeah…he ate the leftovers!
We had the bright idea to head to Bonefish Grill to use up my giftcards from my last birthday…on Friday night at 6pm. So we ended up waiting about an hour for a table since we forgot to call in a reservation. But waiting for the bang-bang shrimp was worth it!! That was honestly my favorite part of the meal
I ordered the tilapia that was stuffed with–get this–scallops and shrimp.
I was a little disappointed when I got it though since it was also stuffed with a creamy cheesy mess. I thought cheese was forbidden from seafood? It was far too rich PLUS the menu never even said anything about cream or cheese in the fish and being slightly lactose intolerant, that kind of annoyed me.
I also managed to score breakfast in bed on Saturday:
We pretty much stayed at the hotel the entire day watching movies while I made flashcards for my nutrition exam (which I took today…yikes) except for when I decided we should probably get out to pick up lunch/dinner…somewhat of a “linner” from Chili’s.
We ordered chips and salsa (because Chili’s has the best chips and salsa and I was going to make guacamole to go with but the avocados had gone bad…dangit!) as well as the explosion salad to split. Dave also ordered a side of broccoli. Have I taught him well or what??
Dave had told me he saved me a cookie from Subway the other day, but we could not find it in his work truck.
But you see, I really wanted a cookie. I could not stop thinking about that cookie! (And I wanted to get some exercise…we made it a goal to take the stairs…all 9 flights). So after going down to look for the cookie, we went back up to get some money and back down to drive to the store to satisfy my ginormous sweet tooth.

We did find a plethora of cookies at Hy-Vee and Dave bought me a dozen monster cookies for my birthday (peanutbuttery, oatmealy, M n M s,soft and flaky goodness).
We also found the perfect birthday present for a friend who remembered my birthday, but we forgot his birthday which was about a week before mine. This will make up for it! 😉
Sunday, my actual Birthday, Dave took me to Hy-Vee for some delightful french toast, eggs and bacon for breakfast and a latte I had been thinking about the past 4 days.
I just loved this quote on the coffee cup.
After fueling with this amazing birthday breakfast, I decided it was time to run my long run.
A 9 mile run. On the treadmill. To prepare for my upcoming half-marathon!! (More on that Friday!)
Before leaving my Dave Sunday evening, I had some leftovers as well as another cookie (or two) and headed out on the 2.5 hour drive back to my apartment.
I’m always so sad to leave Dave or to see him leave me to head back to wherever the heck he is working these days, but I hold on to the hope that one day we will live in the same city again!!
And with all the pictures I take I get to re-live the time we had together. 😉
How do you eat when you are out of town?
Do you make it a point to hit the gym on vacation?

SO much good in this post! I’m glad you celebrated your birthday with many delicious foods, most notably that breakfast in bed, and I’m not even a French toast girl usually.
I haven’t been to Noodles in forever, but I used to ALWAYS order the Japanese Udon Noodles (which are the pan noodles, but I never seemed to think they were called that). I have never thought about udon looking like worms. But I guess Dave is right.
LOVE that coffee cup quote. 🙂

Thanks! I thought there was a lot of good too haha. I can’t believe I had french toast TWICE in one weekend but that definitely happened. 😉
