{WIAW #56} Getting Creative

March 13, 2013 by Amanda R DeWitt

Hello Friends!

Well I almost missed WIAW again this week and there was much internal debate on whether I should be blogging today since I have a Chemistry test tomorrow..but we can make it short and sweet right??  This WIAW folder on my desktop was labeled 2-27-13…so I thought I better get these pictures out before I forget what each food item was!

First of all, this is how I’ve been eating most meals.  While doing homework or studying.

This isn’t the ideal situation in my mind since I think it’s really important to think about and appreciate the food we are eating, but sometimes it is just necessary.

I haven’t eaten breakfast on the go at all this year, so I count that as a win! 😉

Here are some of the foods that have made their way into my study sessions as of late….

(More about my WIAWs here.)

1.  Oatcakes with scrambled eggs (plus coffee).
2.  Crunchy Jif Peanutbutter on two slices of whole wheat Sarah Lee bread with reduced sugar grape jelly + coffee with a generous portion of almond milk.
3.  Same nutbutter and bread but with cinnamon sugar on top.  Side of gummy vites, diet dew and water.

Trying to clean out the fridge is fun!  I’m working on grocery shopping only when I have absolutely nothing left to make into a meal so this has resulted in some creative concoctions.

1.  Leftover ground turkey that I seasoned with taco flavoring (taco turkey).  Put this ontop of spinach with some salsa ranch and crunched up tortilla chips.
2.  Egg salad with spinach and roasted pepper and bean salsa.
3.  Taco turkey with spinach and rice
4.  Leftover ground beef with melted pepperjack cheese, spinach and salsa.  Side of veggies and taco rice!
5.  Basically #3 without rice and a side of carrot chips.

I like having dessert right after a meal, but sometimes it doesn’t happen.  When I get a sugar craving later on, I think it’s smart to pair the sugary food with something else to help me feel full.  Plus I like snacks slash desserts with multiple components.

1.  Chobani omg dark chocolate coffee bites.  Wow!  I got to sample some of their new yogurts and this one was by far my favorite.  I paired it with some almonds and it was the perfect snacky treat.
2.  My dad got me some of these pirouttes for Christmas.  I probably had all of these dessert/snacks with tea if it was at night since I love the warm tea feeling at bedtime.
3.  I stole a twix bar from Dave when I visited him a couple of weeks ago (shh don’t tell!) and decided to break it u and put it over some Kashi warm cinnamon oat cereal.
4.  I think these dark chocolate kisses were from Christmas too?  I had them with some almonds.

Short and sweet! 😉

Much love all!

Do you have a bedtime snack?  If so, what do you have?

How good are you about cleaning out your fridge before you go shopping?

Those pirhouettes are so good! My mom buys them. Also, I’m obsessed with that coffee flavor. Soooooo yummy.

I like your grocery rule. We need to do that!

I have a tiny Twix in my snack drawer at school, and I keep being tempted to break it up on my oats one morning (or afternoon…whenever the oat craving strikes). Also, I am now craving Jif after not thinking peanut butter sounds in any way appealing for the past four days. [Who am I?] Also, cinnamon toast. I’ve been wanting to cover everything in honey and cinnamon lately.

OK. So that comment just turned into ‘vaguely relate my own personal internal monologue to what Amanda posted in order to spew random thoughts.’ I apologize. 🙂

Bedtime snack would have to be something sweet…always need a sweet before bed! Usually I’ll have animal crackers with cookie butter or a few tootsie rolls (my favorite!) ….or sometimes both! haha. That usually does the trick 🙂

I love how creative you got with the taco seasoning! I swear, clean out the fridge meals can sometimes lead to some of the tastiest combinations! I used to be a whiz at scraping up whatever I could out of the depths of a near-empty fridge/pantry, but lately I’ve been on a little kick of eating the same things over and over…when I run out, I go to the store and buy more…even though I STILL have plenty of other stuff I could be eating! Oops?

I almost always have to have a bedtime snack…and it almost always is something sweet! Lately I’ve been having either some Arctic Zero or some kind of yogurt concoction…which honestly always starts out small but ends up with a few too many “add ins” 😉 I’m SO jealous that you were able to try the Cho bites…they sent me some of the Flips (which were great), but I’ve been dying to try the orange and fig and that coffee bite!
