Happy Friday!
I really couldn’t decide what alliteration I wanted to use today, or really what I wanted to blog about, but I knew I did want to blog. Anyone ever feel that way?
It also seems like I have a bazillion ideas when I’m busy, not near a computer, or should be paying attention in class and then forget everything when I get a chance to get it all out.
The tragic, mellow-dramatic life of a blogger. 😉
Well I’m going with the topic of fitness because I’m currently fueling for a little run outdoors this afternoon (with some yummalicious Chobani and Naturebox granola…I die) because the weather turned to pure gorgousness overnight.
Seriously, it was like 3 degrees out yesterday and now it’s 50 degrees. Welcome to Nebraska, friends!
Okay this picture is from December, but it’s so pretty! And it’s Nebraska! |
First of all, if you didn’t know, I moved to the city where I attend classes a couple of weeks ago. I was driving two hours a day 3 to 5 times a week, not to mention the fact that it was difficult to participate in things on campus like study sessions or lab group meet-ups when I lived in a different city.
With moving to a new place, new routines need to be established. One of them being a fitness routine….yeah I haven’t quite gotten there yet. I think the first week or so I was more concerned with unpacking and settling in and figuring out classes (yeah, I moved the first week of class).
I have, however been walking 2 miles (at LEAST) on campus a day, equating to about 10 miles a week, so I am counting that as my walking that I’m supposed to be doing on Fridays with the first part of my half training schedule. (PS Feel free to use that schedule, but show some credit to me and Hal Higdon if you post it online…thanks!)
I also managed to make it to the apartment gym a couple of times, which isn’t too bad. There are three treadmills, one of them in front of the tv and the other two are to the right…so you do that awkward trying-to-run-straight-but-distraced-by-the-tv thing if you get the right ones. But it’s super close and a little more convenient than figuring out how to carry all my gym stuff with me to go to the campus rec center….which I might end up working there so I will probably have to figure that out.
I even ran outside for a little bit around the apartment complex. Apparently there’s a trail nearby that my roomie and her group of friends run on…at 5 in the morning. Haven’t made it to any of those runs yet, ha! She works out early every morning I think so it’s starting to motivate me to get out and MOVE. Benefits to having a running roomie!
I wore tights as pants…but I DID make sure my butt was covered thank you very much! 😉
These photos are from last week…my boxes got all unpacked on Monday! 🙂 |
The one morning I was motivated to get up and run was actually yesterday (wow that feels so far away) when it was literally 3 degrees out. I decided I should just jump on the treadmill and that I would walk/run to the fitness center about a quarter of a mile away.
Holy buckets it was cold! The walk turned to run turned to sprint and my fingers were numb by the time I got to the door. I frantically entered in the code thinking, “It will be okay, I will be inside soon.” Nothing. Over and over I entered that darned code and the door never opened. Now I’m wondering…if that was at 7am..when does the gym open? So weird.

PS. Something cute I found when I was looking for pictures on my camera:
Totally forgot about this picture of my new baby nephew! He’s almost two months now!!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend and I will be back tomorrow with some fun news…that could involve YOU!
I may or may not have gotten seconds of this stuff while writing this post. It’s THAT good. |

What are your plans this weekend?
How are you doing with your fitness goals this week?

Love it girl! Give it time, you’ll get your routine soon enough! 🙂

It’s totally tough settling into a new routine. You’ll get it! Working at the fitness center would be awesome I bet – pretty convenient, I would think! The weather here in Iowa is doing the yo-yo thing too, which I am NOT a fan of.
Except when it’s 50 degrees in January. Lol.

haha yes so crazy!! Yesterday I was freezing my eyeballs off and today I was sweating in my coat…?

Ugh. That sounds like the time (in college) where Brandon and I headed to the gym in an ice storm (we were hardcore…and apparently, stupid). His car got stuck and we had to push it out and then I slipped on the ice and my hand was bleeding. Finally, we make it to the gym in the freezing cold and we had forgotten our gym badges. Whomp. Whomp. Effort counts for something, right? 🙂
I’m sure you’ll get into a routine in no time!

haha oh no that is WAY worse than my story! No blood here at all!
I’m sure I will get into a routine. 😉

I am impressed you even TRIED to run outside in such frigid temperatures. I swear I am allergic to the cold. Yesterday it was 70 degrees outside and I felt like a whole new person. 🙂 Good for you for taking a little ‘comes as it comes’ fitness ‘break.’ Moving burns a WHOLE lot of calories, and talk about muscle building with all of those boxes you’re lifting?
P.S. The beginning of this post made me laugh because I am the SAME way. If it cannot be alliterated, I feel sort of at a loss. I also lose focus in the middle of work sometimes because I’ll be struck with ‘the best idea EVER’ 😉

hehe thanks for the validation that moving burns calories. and for relating to the alliteration thing. 😉
