How ironic is it that I was complaining about not being a mom in my post yesterday, when I found a very good reason to be thankful I don’t have to worry about my children just yet.
I, like many of you, am still trying to process the tragedy of yesterday. If you don’t know what I’m talking about..pull up yahoo.com for example, or any news page.
I did finally get to snuggle my nephew yesterday and it was pure bliss.
I am so so thankful for him!! And my family!!
We even went for a little walk. His first walk. 🙂
Baby Aaron was ALL wrapped up! |
I really like encouraging my family to be active and even raced my youngest sister up an enormous hill. Twice.
While we were out being active we met a nice woman walking her dog and she brought up the story that my family hadn’t even discussed yet, but I had read numerous tweets about. At that point, it didn’t even seem real.
A Christmas Story!! One of the favorites!! |
I went on the rest of the night successfully blocking it out of my mind. Or letting it feel far enough away that it didn’t affect me. We watched Christmas movies, started at baby Aaron for hours and even put up the Christmas tree finally.
I had been debating on putting it up since I will be moving soon, but it’s so worth it to see its warm glow at night.
Today it hit me, as things tend to when I’m alone with my thoughts and the ever present flow of media..

I don’t have any profound words of comfort. The only thing I know to do is pray.
Sleepy mama and baby. And goofy aunt Rachel. |
I do know that this might bring up a few questions. Who could possibly harm a child? Why would God let this happen?
He STUDIES faces now. |
I do believe that the man who did this was seriously, seriously hurting. It’s really conflicting to feel any kind of pity towards someone like that, and I don’t right now. But maybe we will eventually realize that something that can be done to prevent events like this is diagnosing mental illnesses and/or trying our very best to be kind to EVERYONE. You never know what demons someone is facing.
I also believe that God gave us all free will. Unfortunately that is not always a good thing. He doesn’t DO these things to us. Humans are imperfect and do these things to each other, sometimes for reasons we will never understand.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by the tragedy. Even those not directly affected. The mental anguish and the fresh feeling of fear can affect anyone at a time like this.
I hope we can soon find comfort in the normal things in life and that we are even more grateful for the little ones that warm our hearts on a regular basis. We have so much to be thankful for!
And that we can try to enjoy this most wonderful time of the year with those we love.

Let us also be comforted by a very wise mother:
Gotta love Mr. Rogers!!
Hug your loved ones!!

PS I have a fun post coming up with yummy Christmas treats and a great way to get all your baking for Christmas done in a less-stressful way! Instead of doing it all the night before Christmas Eve…like I usually do. 😉

It really is such a tragedy. I swear I’m still trying to process and put words together.

I know it’s hard. Took me a long while to type something up. I was seriously crying randomly throughout the day about it yesterday and had to unplug from all media to shield myself. So scary!!

I’m so sad that there were so many prolific shooting events this year. I’m all for “right to bear arms” but let’s be realistic. Do we honestly need ready access to weapons that fire off rounds at lightning speed? no. we don’t. So many lives would be saved if we had stricter gun laws. Yes, we will always have crazy people, but events like this wouldn’t leave so many people dead and injured if we didn’t allow for those weapons.
I personally didn’t know about this until much, much later in the day. Actually, I didn’t hear about it until yesterday. I’m really sad for the families of the victims.

This is the debate of the century lol. I know guns can hurt people, but people who want to own them will probably still own them, no matter what laws we put in place. If guns are made illegal…do we really think EVERYONE will hand in their guns? No. Only the people who care about following the law and that leaves the “bad people” with the weapons. There are definitely two good arguments to this issue, but I just don’t see how we could really fix the gun issue without actually endangering people (leaving the “good people” defenseless).
Another thought I had was…what if the teachers were allowed to have their own weapons for defense? They had NOTHING. All they could do is stand there or try to hide. 🙁
Also saw a story that the same thing happened in China but since it’s really hard to get a gun…the guy used a butcher’s knife. On kids and teachers. Super disturbing.
I feel the root of the issue is trying to help people who are mentally ill. I think we should also be reminded to be very cautious about the way we treat others…you never know what kinds of demons the person has. So flippin sad. Definitely praying for everyone this has affected!!
