The half-marathon.
The daunting 13.1 mile run.
I’ve attempted training for it twice now.
The first time, I hurt my back at work. Not only did I have to discontinue training, I was unable to work for a couple of months. That. Was. Awful.
The last time I tried to train for the half-marathon, I got sick. I got a bit depressed and frustrated for awhile and didn’t run for about a month.
But I’m back to running and I’m excited! I ran the Color Run which is a 5K (that’s only sort of a run…more info here), and I’ve run a couple of 3-milers recently. It feels really good to get back into it and I’m pretty sure the break I took was instrumental in my enthusiasm.
I even developed a plan in case I actually sign up for a local half that’s in September, based on a Hal Higdon plan, but altered to fit my schedule. It also includes my aerobics class that I signed up for at school to ensure a full-time status. Yep, I get college credit for aerobics (and weight training the second half of the semester!). Check out my running plan here.
I actually went 4 miles today at the gym. I got off of work at 11am and was planning to run outside today, however, it was 93 degrees outside. No thank you.
It turns out, it may have been better to run outdoors…it was stinkin hot and humid in the gym.
Or maybe I was just a crazy sweaty Betty today. I seriously felt like I was making less of an effort than usual, yet the sweat dripped all over and I was wishing I had some awesome sweat bands to keep the stuff from burning my eyes!
I just might invest in a sweatband. I did get one at the Color Run. Thoughts?
I just thought I’d tell everyone that I’m training again. Feel free to keep me accountable and ask how my running is going in comments on any post, Facebook and/or Twitter!
Be prepared for more run posts as I train for my half-marathon!! And wish me luck and health as I proceed yet again! 🙂
