Hey all of you last minute party people!
I have some yummy treats you can make for the 4th of July without using your hot oven (I mean really, its been in the 90s here…at 8am…we don’t need to turn on the dang oven too!).
They are my go-to oreo balls..with a twist! (4th of July Treats from last year)
Ingredients:
- 1 package Golden Oreos
- 1 8oz container cream cheese at room temperature (I’ve tried lowfat…just not the same)
- 1/4 cup peanutbutter
- 1/4 cup chocolate chips
- almond bark (about one-and-a-half packages)
- festive sprinkles or chocolate chips for decoration
- cupcake holders
How To Make:
- Crush up Golden Oreos in a ziplock bag (a few at a time) with a rolling pin and/or strong hands. You can also use a food processor, however I don’t have one and can’t tell you the specifics on that route.
- Add cream cheese and peanutbutter. Knead while still in ziplock bag with hands until mixes thouroughly.
- Add chocolate chips and knead again until mixed well.
- Put in the freezer for 20 minutes
- Take out and roll into balls (the size is your choice). Stick back in the fridge for another 20 minutes.
- Heat almond bark according to instructions. Dip each of the balls into the almond bark with a spoon or fork. Place on waxed paper and add sprinkles quickly before the almond bark hardens.
- You can stick them back in the freezer to harden more quickly, or let them harden on their own.
- Place in cupcake holders to make them look fancy.
I brought these no-bake 4th of July treats to a party tonight and they went over pretty well, despite the fact that there were a zillion other desserts to choose from.
I also made these for a friend’s going away party on Sunday but I put chocolate chips on top instead.
Now those went like hotcakes. I mean I barely set them down and they were gone. My friend even choked on one and said he accidentally tried to inhale it. That’s one delicious no bake dessert!
I am really trying to think about the reason behind the 4th of July.
It’s Independence Day. We usually just view it as food and fireworks day, don’t we?
We really tend to take for granted the basic freedoms that we have (that might not always be around).
One that I am very thankful for is the freedom of religion. I can practice my faith anytime, anywhere without fear of going to jail. This is NOT the case in many other countries around the globe. So. Thankful.
I am also very thankful for those brave men and women who are out there fighting for our freedom. I know for a fact that I am not built to do that and am so grateful they are putting their lives on the line for me.
I hope you all have a fun and safe 4th of July!
What are you thankful for in this country?
