Hello Friends!
I am still high on New Year Resolutions! (P.S. Check out the post and link-up or share your own resolutions! I want to hear what your goals are for 2012!)
One of my goals for 2012 is to run a half-marathon. I am already signed up for one on May 20th and since I am a college student and did pay a bit-o-cash to run in it, I figure I should commit!
I just finished transferring my miles for January through April of 2011 from Runnersworld.com to my Dailymile.com account. I added 80 more miles to my 2011 count to bring last year’s miles to a grand total of 218. And that was with a back injury where I couldn’t run for a few months. I figure I could run at least 300 miles this year eh? Another goal to add to my resolutions!
If you don’t have a way to log your running miles, give DailyMile a try!
It is an excellent resource and motivator. You can see how you are doing by week, month or the whole year. It even tells you your top stats such as pace and number of miles.
The lifetime stats are pretty humorous as well…do you know how many doughnuts you burned off running last year? I do!
Another motivational tool on DailyMile is the ability to “add friends”. There is a “Community” tab where runners are put into categories such as funniest, featured, most miles, or ones in your area. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to friend a funny runner?
Once you find interesting people, you can request to be friends with them. Upon accepting, you can see all of the miles and workouts they log, make comments and leave motivations. My friends motivate me to no end…mostly because they are over achievers. 😉
The “Leaderboard” on the bottom right corner shows the top weekly mile count among my 28 friends (so far I haven’t been on it). I even have a friend who lives in Kenya! He has pictures running along side wild animals. Fascinating!
I ran for the very first time this year AND for the first time in a month on Monday.
The sun was bright and shining as I looked up from my laptop out the window. I checked the forecast and the high for Monday was in the 30s…not too great for running, as I am a wimp in the cold. But I bundled up as best as I possibly could, dusted off my Garmin watch and ipod and headed out into the…. frigid weather.
So cold!
I had forgotten to take into account the silly thing we call a wind chill. I later found out that the wind was blowing at 15mph! I wanted to immediately turn around as I picked up speed and the frost seemed to slap me in the face, but I resolved to go on. My training schedule called for 2 miles on Monday and I was determined to start the year off on the right foot (no pun intended). I made it through one mile and decided that was good enough. I walked another half a mile on the Treadclimber.
Aside from my toes (and booty) going numb from the chilly weather, I realized how much I missed running outside! And how excited I am to finally be able to run a half-marathon. Sadly I signed up for one last year and was unable to run with my back injury. I am going to be more careful this year and make sure I lift as well as run.
I have checked the weather for today and it is currently 41 degrees with wind at only 8mph so we will see if I can get through a whole 2 miles. {SO EXCITED!}
Have a great Wednesday everyone! Stay tuned for my WIAW post! 🙂
